High school football games continued in Washington last weekend, marking the first full fall season in two years. Here is the updated statewide all-classification SBLive Top 25 Washington after Week 8:

Ranking rationale: At this point, ask yourself – who else would seriously be in the conversation, based on season results?

2. LAKE STEVENS VIKINGS 6-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 29 at No. 17 Glacier Peak (4A)

Last result: 35-28 win over Kamiak (4A)

Last ranking: No. 2

Ranking rationale: Uh-oh, the Viks only won by a touchdown Friday and are suddenly vulnerable … yeah, not buying it.

3. GONZAGA PREP BULLPUPS 7-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 29 vs. No. 16 Mount Spokane (3A)

Last result: 56-14 win over Ferris (3A)

Last ranking: No. 3

Ranking rationale: The most boring, awesome team in the state. Bullpups run their stuff, take care of business and go home.

4. BELLEVUE WOLVERINES 8-0 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 29 vs. Juanita (3A)

Last result: 48-7 win over Hazen (3A)

Last ranking: No. 4

Ranking rationale: Are the Wolverines comfortably the best team in Class 3A? Seems like it. Well-greased team gaining steam.

5. BOTHELL COUGARS 8-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 28 at No. 8 Eastlake (4A)

Last result: 46-21 win over Bishop Blanchet (3A)

Last ranking: No. 5

Ranking rationale: Sort of under the radar for a top-five team, but the volume gets turned up if Cougars win 4A KingCo title Thursday.

6. YELM TORNADOS 7-0 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 29 at Central Kitsap (3A)

Last result: Did not play (47-6 win over North Thurston on Oct. 15)

Last ranking: No. 6

Ranking rationale: Was it a good time for a one-week rest period? Tornados just enjoy being out on field and hitting somebody.

7. KAMIAKIN BRAVES 8-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 29 at Sunnyside (4A)

Last result: 63-28 win over Hanford (3A)

Last ranking: No. 7

Ranking rationale: With each passing week, this team’s statewide buzz grows – which is odd considering it won 3A title five years ago.

8. EASTLAKE WOLVES 8-0 (4A)

Last result: 42-0 win over Issaquah (4A)

Last ranking: No. 8

Ranking rationale: This week is a big moment for this program – playing the Cougars to try and win their first 4A KingCo title since 2001.

Last result: 27-10 win over Chiawana (4A)

Last ranking: No. 9

Ranking rationale: RB Myles Mayovsky says it’s “playoff season” already around the program, which means intensity ratchets up a tad.

Ranking rationale: How much is this team having late in the year? PK Wyatt Redding catches a touchdown, and the Spartans go nuts.

Ranking rationale: Gut says once the Thunderbirds emerge after late-season scheduling lull, they will be fire-spitting dragon in playoffs.

Ranking rationale: Again, talent and tradition aren’t the issue. Taking care of the ball has been – in two losses. Still viable 3A contender.

Last result: 40-24 win over Southridge (3A)

Last ranking: No. 15

Ranking rationale: Longtime coach Mike Neidhold not thrilled with his team getting shut out in second half last week – and Bombers know it.

Ranking rationale: Folks just warming up to this team should realize Eagles very well could be 8-0 right now after weird last-minute loss to Ferndale.

Ranking rationale: When it comes to giddy-up offense, and grab-the-football-out-of-the-air defense, there might not be a more exciting team than Viks.

Last result: 32-0 over Bainbridge (3A)

Last ranking: No. 24

Ranking rationale: True conquerors of the West Sound, QB Colton Bower and company nearly ready to venture out and take on the rest of 2A elite.

Last result: 41-20 win over Wenatchee (4A)

Last ranking: No. 25

Ranking rationale: It’s mind-blowing to think this could be Notre Dame WR commit Tobias Merriweather’s last meaningful game. Can’t happen, can it?

Last result: 46-7 win over Marysville Getchell (3A)

Ranking rationale: Remember when the Wesco was talked about as a mid-tier 3A league? Well, Metro only other one with at least three teams in top 25.
