WASHINGTON FOOTBALL ALL-CLASSIFICATION POWER RANKINGS

1. GRAHAM-KAPOWSIN EAGLES 7-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 21 at Emerald Ridge (4A)

Last result: 41-14 win over then-No. 5 Sumner (4A)

Last ranking: No. 1

Ranking rationale: Is there anything higher than No. 1? Just dismantled top-five team on the road to essentially clinch 4A SPSL.

2. LAKE STEVENS VIKINGS 5-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 22 vs. Kamiak (4A)

Last result: 91-6 win over Jackson (4A)

Last ranking: No. 2

Ranking rationale: Guess if the Vikings score near-100 points every week, that is one way to gain ground at top-spot hog Graham-Kapowsin

3. GONZAGA PREP BULLPUPS 6-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 22 vs. Ferris (3A)

Last result: 34-7 win over Lewis & Clark (4A)

Last ranking: No. 3

Ranking rationale: If the Bullpups get their passing game going with QB Ryan McKenna (170 yards, two TDs), how do you defend them?

4. BELLEVUE WOLVERINES 7-0 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 12 at Hazen (3A)

Last result: 53-7 win over Liberty of Issaquah (3A)

Last ranking: No. 4

Ranking rationale: Why no louder buzz about the Wing-T masters? Wolverines just fine keeping low profile – and pounding 3A KingCo defenses.

5. BOTHELL COUGARS 7-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 21 at Bishop Blanchet (3A)

Last result: 31-21 win over Woodinville (4A)

Last ranking: No. 6

Ranking rationale: Big hurdle cleared holding off chief 4A KingCo rival (Woodinville) – and now they will play for another league championship.

6. YELM TORNADOS 7-0 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 29 at Central Kitsap (3A)

Last result: 47-6 win over North Thurston (3A)

Last ranking: No. 8

Ranking rationale: Tornados don’t duck anybody, so 3A SCC showdown cancellation with Peninsula (COVID) is a huge bummer.

7. KAMIAKIN BRAVES 7-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 22 vs. Hanford (3A)

Last result: 48-7 win over Pasco (4A)

Last ranking: No. 9

Ranking rationale: Already regarded as the top program from the Mid-Columbia Conference, could Braves be the best team from eastern Washington?

8. EASTLAKE WOLVES 7-0 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 22 at Issaquah (4A)

Last result: 27-20 win over Mount Si (4A)

Last ranking: No. 11

Ranking rationale: More than a few this summer felt this was the team to beat in the 4A KingCo. Now they will have a chance to prove that sentiment.

9. KENNEWICK LIONS 5-1 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 14 vs. Hermiston of Oregon (3A)

Last result: Oct. 22 at Chiawana (4A)

Last ranking: No. 13

Ranking rationale: In some way, must feel like the postseason is starting now for Lions, who finish MCC slate with Riverhawks and Richland.

10. SUMNER SPARTANS 6-1 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 23 vs. Bellarmine Prep

Last result: 41-14 loss to No. 1 Graham-Kapowsin

Last ranking: No. 5.

Ranking rationale: Yes, offensive-centerpiece RB Peyton Wing (knee) departing early was a blow. Still a good team with more room for growth.

11. TUMWATER THUNDERBIRDS 4-2 (2A)

Up next: Oct. 22 at Black Hills (2A)

Last result: 28-26 loss to Camas (4A)

Last ranking: No. 10

Ranking rationale: Thunderbirds played worst first half of the season – and nearly came all the way back against a surging Papermakers squad

12. MARYSVILLE-PILCHUCK TOMAHAWKS 6-1 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 22 vs. Oak Harbor (3A)

Last result: 28-14 loss to Arlington (3A)

Last ranking: No. 12

Ranking rationale: What can you say – Tomahawks had an off night (and Eagles were awesome). Based on recent run, team maintains spot.

13. EASTSIDE CATHOLIC CRUSADERS 5-1 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 22 vs. Ballard (3A)

Last result: 28-27 win over Rainier Beach (3A)

Last ranking: No. 14

Ranking rationale: What do you know – the reigning 3A champions once again rule the Metro League. Winning close games a big payoff.

14. O’DEA FIGHTING IRISH 4-2 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 22 vs. Garfield (3A)

Last result: 42-14 win over Ballard (3A)

Last ranking: No. 15

Ranking rationale: Ball security and pounding the rock were two points of emphasis after Eastside Catholic loss. O’Dea was good at both Friday.

15. RICHLAND BOMBERS 6-1 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 23 vs. Southridge (3A)

Last result: 49-27 win over Walla Walla (3A)

Last ranking: No. 16

Ranking rationale: Bombers will spend rest of regular season at alternate home – Lampson Stadium. Still in driver’s seat for No. 2 seed from MCC.

16. MOUNT SPOKANE WILDCATS 5-1 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 21 vs. University (3A)

Last result: 38-24 win over Mead (3A)

Last ranking: No. 17

Ranking rationale: Wildcats got all they wanted in the “Battle of the Bell” rivalry game, but QB Kellen Flanigan and WR Blake Speer had last laugh.

17. GLACIER PEAK GRIZZLIES 5-1 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 22 vs. Jackson (4A)

Last result: 27-19 win over North Creek (4A)

Last ranking: No. 18

Ranking rationale: Maybe the Grizzlies could contend in 4A KingCo (2-0 against that league) and the 4A Wesco in same season. Back on track.

18. LINCOLN OF TACOMA 4-2 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 23 at Lakes (3A)

Last result: Did not play (44-0 win over Bonney Lake on Oct. 7)

Last ranking: No. 19

Ranking rationale: What a rally by QB Gabarri Johnson and the Abes after tough early-season schedule. A win Saturday clinches the 3A PCL title.

19. SPANAWAY LAKE SENTINELS 3-1 (3A)

Up next: TBD

Last result: 41-6 win over Bonney Laker (3A)

Last ranking: No. 20

Ranking rationale: Sentinels getting closer to dominant form of last spring – and should be tough customer when postseason comes in two weeks.

20. ROYAL KNIGHTS 7-0 (1A)

Up next: Oct. 22 at College Place (1A)

Last result: 42-0 win over Zillah (1A)

21. SKYVIEW STORM 6-1 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 22 at Camas (4A)

Last result: 37-7 win over Union (4A)

Last ranking: No. 24

Ranking rationale: Nothing more impressive happened in Week 7 than the Storm’s smackdown of Union. But it doesn’t get much easier Friday.

22. ARLINGTON EAGLES 6-1 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 22 vs. Mariner (3A)

Last result: 28-14 win over Marysville-Pilchuck (3A)

Last ranking: Not ranked

Ranking rationale: Led by QB Trent Nobach, Eagles notch one of best wins in school history. In process, they shake up three-team 3A Wesco.

22. RAINIER BEACH VIKINGS 3-2 (3A)

Up next: Oct. 23 vs. Seattle Prep (3A)

Last result: 28-27 loss to then-No. 14 Eastside Catholic (3A)

Last ranking: No. 22

Ranking rationale: Very well could have knocked off Eastside Catholic in Sammamish, but Viks were done in my sloppy special teams.

24. NORTH KITSAP VIKINGS 7-0 (2A)

Up next: Oct. 21 at Bainbridge

Last result: 56-21 win over Bremerton (2A)

Last ranking: No. 25

Ranking rationale: A special time in the West Sound as one of the area’s best in QB Colton Bower finishes up shattering many, many school records.

25. UNION TITANS 5-2 (4A)

Up next: Oct. 22 at Wenatchee (4A)

Last result: 37-7 loss to Skyview (4A)

Last ranking: No. 7

Ranking rationale: Just a bad loss to the Storm all the way around. Union has two weeks before Camas calls to crash the rest of Titans’ season entirely.
