Photos: Late Bellarmine Prep rally, capped by last-second Max Walker field goal, stuns Emerald Ridge, 23-20

PUYALLUP – For the second time this season, the Bellarmine Prep Lions needed fourth-quarter magic to trip up a 4A SPSL playoff contender.

The Lions tied it on the first play of the quarter – on Tristan Warner’s 14-yard run – and won it on the final play of the game on Max Walker’s 25-yard field goal.

Bellarmine Prep got out of Sparks Stadium with a 23-20 win to improve to 4-0.

The Lions received a gift of sorts after Emerald Ridge lined up for a punt from its own 18-yard line with 22 seconds to go. Somehow, there was a miscommunication as the upback took the snap and attempted a pass on fourth down that fell incomplete.

After a Jaguars’ penalty, Bellarmine Prep took possession at the Jaguars’ 9. Two plays later, Walker made the game-winning kick.

Warner finished with 140 yards on 31 carries, scoring two touchdowns. Jake Schakel threw a couple of touchdown passes in his 22-of-31, 204-yard effort for Emerald Ridge, but was intercepted three times.
