VANCOUVER, Wash. — Jason Brown and the vaunted O’Dea front were not be denied on opening night. The sophomore rushed for 284 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries to lead O’Dea past 4A Union 35-17 in the season-opening nonleague matchup at McKenzie Stadium Friday afternoon.

Notre Dame commit Tobias Merriweather kept Union (0-1) within four points early in the fourth quarter. But the Fighting Irish (1-0) pulled away with a 42-yard touchdown pass from John Kohler to Tucker Ashcroft early in the fourth and a short yardage punch-in from Brown in the final minutes.
