SBLive Boys Basketball Recruiting Rankings: Seattle Prep junior Tyler Mrus ranked No. 16 in Washington

In an effort to shine a brighter spotlight on Washington high school basketball players, we are introducing our first-ever SBLive Boys Basketball Recruiting Rankings.

Our rankings are compiled by SBLive Basketball Analyst Dan Dickau based on observations and conversations with an extensive network of coaching and media sources across the country. The players have been evaluated through a college recruiting lens and analyzed in four categories: athleticism, ball skills, basketball IQ and upside.

Over the next few weeks we will roll out our Top 25 players in Washington. Here’s a closer look at No. 16 on the list, Seattle Prep wing Tyler Mrus:

DICKAU’S ANALYSIS

ATHLETICISM: Mrus is a great athlete at the high school level and it will definitely translate to the college level. He is big, strong and tough and doesn’t back down from a challenge. This will allow him to make the transition to the wing from the 4 in high school.

BALL SKILLS: Mrus caught my eye in the past because of his athleticism but his skills are starting to come around. This is key because he must be able to handle it better and shoot it from the three-point line to make the transition to the wing at the college level. Defensively he can really lock people up at the high school level and this will translate to college.

BASKETBALL IQ: He has a really good basketball IQ and this will ease the transition to college for him. He’s a great student that can take a scouting report and apply it on the court at multiple positions.

UPSIDE: Mrus’ athleticism and competitiveness have caught the eye of multiple Division I schools on the West Coast, including Lorenzo Romar at Pepperdine. His ability to improve as a shooter and project as a true wing is what we need to keep an eye on.
