Scorebook Live’s 1A Washington softball Top 10: Forks No. 1 in preseason rankings

Here are Scorebook Live’s preseason Top 10 rankings for Class 1A Washington high school softball. Our class-by-class Washington softball rankings are typically released every Monday throughout the season. With spring sports on hold due to coronavirus concerns, it’s possible these will be our only softball rankings of the 2020 season.

The rankings are compiled by SB Live Washington senior reporter Todd Milles.

CLASS 1A SOFTBALL PRESEASON TOP 10

1. Forks

Is this the Spartans’ year to win a first state title? They have 1A’s best battery with C Rian Peters (St. Martin’s signee) and SP Chloe Leverington

2. Warden

The Cougars are a team on the rise with hard-throwing sophomore SP Kiana Rios and Viri Gutierrez, and all-state 3B Jocelyn Chagoya

3. Elma

Even though the Eagles lost five seniors, they still have all-state SP Quin Mikel to team up with SS Kali Rambo, who is going to Lower Columbia CC

4. Montesano

1A player of the year Lindsay Pace graduated, but the reigning state champs have two good outfielders in Janessa Otterstetter and Abby Parkin

5. Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls

Coach Chuck Moffatt always has his team in the mix, and he has returning all-state 1B Olivia Charbonneau and OF Brie Frazier back as seniors

6. Castle Rock

The Rockets lost a pair of all-state performers in C Zoe Naugle and 3B Sadee Huckleberry, but still have 1A’s top returning pitcher in Payton Kessler

7. College Place

Top SP Paris Orchard, an all-state second-team selection, graduated. But her sister and battery mate, Natalie, is a senior, as well as OF Ellie Christensen

8. Naches

Lacee Fridley was the Rangers’ two-way leader, but now it is up to promising junior IFs Allison Uecker and Audrey Kime to lead this group

9. Lynden Christian

The Lyncs have been in the 1A tournament the past four seasons, but Abby and Anny Jansma graduated, leaving INF Reese Dykstra as the go-to hitter.

10. Deer Park

The Stags sputtered at the end of 2019 but return three all-state seniors – SP Jaylee Lane, OF Hannah Hodgson and INF/SP Morgan Erickson
