Union’s Tanner Toolson opens up about recruiting process, breakout senior season and unexpected TikTok fame

Union senior Tanner Toolson had wrapped up a breakout senior season and was ready to hit the road and visit his top college choices when the novel coronavirus brought the country — and much of the world — to a halt.

Now Toolson, who was named the state coaches association’s “Mr. Basketball,” is idling at home without having taken a visit to any of his top-four schools: Boise State, Utah State, Utah and BYU.

The uncommitted 6-5 senior’s experience is just one example about how COVID-19 has impacted the college recruiting process for even the top uncommitted prospects across the state of Washington.

Toolson joined Scorebook Live Washington reporter Andy Buhler on Tuesday afternoon for an interview live on Instagram to give an update on his recruiting process, break down Union’s third place finish at state and answer for his unexpected TikTok fame.
