SB Live Washington all-classification Top 25 boys basketball rankings: No. 1 Eastside Catholic prove its place again in OT battle with Mt. Spokane

Here are Scorebook Live’s all-classification Top 25 rankings for Washington high school boys basketball for the week of the state tournament, March 2, 2020.

Our all-class Top 25 rankings are released weekly throughout the 2019-20 high school boys basketball season, based on results from the previous week. The rankings are compiled by SB Live basketball analyst and former NBA player Dan Dickau and SB Live Washington reporter Andy Buhler.

ALL-CLASS BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 25

Rankings as of March 2, 2020 (based on last week’s results)

Biggest Jump: Gonzaga Prep (from 15)

1. Eastside Catholic 23-3 (3A)

The Crusaders were tested — again — and survived, beating Tyson Degenhart and 8-seed Mt. Spokane in overtime behind Shane Nowell’s 28 points to book first round bye. 

2. O’Dea 21-5 (3A)

O’Dea set itself up in a way it did not on its way to a 3A state title last year. By defeating 2-seed Wilson in Tacoma (by the way, Paolo Banchero was a show-stopper) in a regional seeding game Friday the Fighting Irish earned a first round bye and will play Seattle Prep/Mt. Spokane in the quarters Thursday.

3. Union 25-0 (4A)

The Titans were taken to the wire by a Gonzaga Prep team that feels it has “turned a corner” since the teams first played in early January. Despite its star player Tanner Toolson sitting early with foul trouble, Union found a way to nab a first round bye in a 66-64 win

4. Garfield 22-4 (3A)

Garfield left no doubt in its 3A regional seeding game. The Bulldogs throttled Evergreen (Vancouver) in a regional seeding game, 77-54, at one point erupted for 28 unanswered points to land straight in the quarterfinals. 

5. Glacier Peak 24-0 (4A)

Glacier Peak’s statement should put the rest of 4A on notice, if its undefeated season has not to this point. The Grizzlies beat Auburn 69-43 in a 4A regional seeding game to head straight to Thursday’s 4A quarterfinals. 

6. Central Valley 22-2 (4A)

Central Valley’s balanced offense and defensive-oriented approach continues to pay off. The Bears beat state tournament mainstay Federal Way, 76-72, behind sophomore Dylan Darling’s 17 points off the bench to earn a straight-to-quarterfinals berth.

7. Mount Si 23-4 (4A)

Stomped West Valley (Yakima), the Big 9’s top representative, 74-44, behind Jabe Mullins’ 27 points to head straight to the quarterfinals. 

8. Mt. Spokane 19-5 (3A)

Took top-ranked Eastside Catholic and its star-studded lineup to overtime in a narrow 3A regional seeding game loss. The defending 3A runners up will face Seattle Prep in the first round. 

9. Wilson 20-3 (3A) 

Lost to Paolo Banchero and 3A power O’Dea on Friday to land in a first round loser-out against Marysville-Pilchuck.

10. Gonzaga Prep 18-7 (4A) 

Gave Union a scare in a 4A regional seeding game on Saturday, taking the undefeated Titans to the wire in a 66-64 loss behind Liam Lloyd’s 34 points. 

11. Kamiakin 20-3 (3A)

Drove across the state to beat 3-sees Marysville-Pilchuck, 81-71, in a 3A state seeding game to earn a first round bye. Will play the winner of Evergreen/Rainier Beach Thursday.

12. Federal Way 23-5 (4A)

Lost to Central Valley in Spokane in a 4A regional round seeding game. Will play Battle Ground in the first round on Wednesday.

13. Chiawana 22-3 (4A)

Eliminated in the 4A District 8 tournament, but don’t let this fool you: Chiawana is a state tournament-caliber team. 

14. Seattle Prep 22-5 (3A)

Beat Spanaway Lake, 62-57, in a 3A regional loser-out to land in a first round state game against Mt. Spokane Wednesday.

15. Evergreen (Vancouver) 20-4 (3A)

Took a lopsided loss to Garfield in Sammamish to land in a first round loser-out 3A state tournament game against Rainier Beach. 

16. Olympia 20-6 (4A)

Beat Eastmont, 69-46, in a 4A regional loser-out to land in the first round against 7-seed Auburn. 

17. Lynden 22-2 (2A)

Beat Mountlake Terrace in a 2A regional seeding game to land a first round bye ahead of a quarterfinal matchup with the winner of Prosser/Toppenish. 

18. Auburn 23-6 (4A)

Lost to Glacier Peak, 69-43, in a 4A regional seeding game. Will Play 10-seed Olympia in a first round state loser-out on Wednesday.

19. North Kitsap 20-4 (2A)

Lost to Tumwater in a regional seeding game, 60-55, marking its second consecutive loss. The Vikings will play a first round loser-out 2A state tournament game against Selah.

20. West Valley (Yakima) 19-3 (4A)

Lost to Mount Si in a 4A regional seeding game, 74-44, to land in a first round state loser-out against Skyview on Wednesday.

21. Sumner 19-6 (4A) 

Beat Kentwood in a loser-out 4A regional game, 58-43, to book a first round state date with Gonzaga Prep on Wednesday.

22. Marysville-Pilchuck 21-3 (3A)

Lost to Kamiakin in a 3A regional round seeding game, 81-71, to land in a first round state loser-out with Central Kitsap on Wednesday.

23. Toppenish 21-2 (2A)

Lost to Clarkston, 53-49, in a 2A regional seeding game to land in the first round against Prosser, which it has already played three times, and went 2-1. 

24. Zillah 22-2 (1A)

The defending 1A champs lost in overtime to 6-seed Lynden Christian, 65-62, to draw 14-seed King’s in a first round state loser-out between two teams good enough to win a state title. 

25. Seattle Academy 22-1 (1A)

Beat Omak in a 1A regional seeding game, 72-53, to earn a first round bye and a quarterfinal date with the winner of La Center and King’s Way.
