The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced Friday night it was moving regional high school regional basketball games from Jackson High School, as Washington health officials announced a Jackson High School student is being treated for coronavirus.
The four games will be played at Shorewood High School. All games will go on at the previously scheduled times.
“WIAA Staff have been in communication with the Washington Department of Health and will continue to receive guidance in order to ensure the safety of those involved with WIAA state events,” the WIAA said in a statement sent out Friday night.
Jackson announced it will close due to be cleaned on Monday as the student became ill with the virus this week.
The case was one of three coronavirus cases announce Friday night where the virus reportedly spread without overseas travel or contact with a person known to be infected. One is in Oregon and another in California.
The Jackson student who fell ill with the virus earlier this week is “doing well,” Dr. Chris Spitters of the Snohomish Health District told the Everett Herald.
The games involved are Lake Washington and Arlington girls at 12 p.m, Kamiakin-Marysville-Pilchuck boys at 2 p.m., Camas and Lake Stevens girls at 4 p.m. and Auburn vs. Glacier Peak boys at 6 p.m..
