3A boys basketball: Pierce County League midseason overview, predictions, top players

We’re taking an inside look at the top teams, best players, emerging X-factors and projected finish for each Class 3A boys basketball league around the state of Washington.

Here is a look at the 3A Pierce County League:

TOP TEAM

Wilson Rams: It’s Wilson’s league to lose. The Rams play up-tempo, hold a three-game lead atop the league standings and have several guys who can cause trouble for opponents, including floor general Damani Green. Freshman Cayden McDaniel started the season coming off the bench, but has played himself into the starting lineup. And Jackson Dorsey, a 6-6 junior, is a big part of the Rams’ inside presence, and is still working back from a long-term knee injury suffered over the summer.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Damani Green, Wilson: The 5-foot-10 senior slashing point guard has blow-by speed, plays with a chip and is a veteran leader for the Rams.

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR

Jaylen Scott, Stadium: First full season where he’s the “guy.” And he’s sure playing like it, leading Stadium in scoring. He’s a walking 20-plus point scorer on any given night.

Kenzel Massey, Lakes: The 6-foot-7 forward has already generated recruiting buzz for his frame and shooting ability. And he’s had his moments this season, perhaps most notably a 34-point outing against Bethel in December.

PREDICTED LEAGUE ORDER OF FINISH

1. Wilson

2. Lincoln

3. Lakes

4. Mt. Tahoma

5. Stadium

6. Spanaway Lake

7. Bethel

8. Bonney Lake
