4A boys basketball: South Puget Sound midseason overview, predictions, top players

We’re taking an inside look at the top teams, best players, emerging X-factors and projected finish for each Class 4A boys basketball league around the state of Washington.

Here is a look at the 4A South Puget Sound League:

TOP TEAM

After losing two of its first three games to league opponents, Olympia has won 10 straight and is neck-and-neck atop the 4A SPSL with Puyallup, which it has already beaten by 16 points. Puyallup and Sumner round out the top-three, but can either take down the Bears in the second half of league play?

PLAYER TO WATCH

Jackson Grant, Olympia: There’s a reason University of Washington was so high on the 6-foot-10 forward. He can bang inside, stretch the floor and shoot the 3-ball.

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR

Puyallup’s Cobi Campbell has been a knock-down shooter for years. But this year, he plays alongside junior Luke Holcomb and freshman Taki Uluilakepa (brother of Montana State commit and all-state linebacker Danny Uluilakepa) — all three sharpshooters from deep.

PREDICTED LEAGUE ORDER OF FINISH

1. Olympia

2. Puyallup

3. Sumner

4. Emerald Ridge

5. Rogers (Puyallup)

6. South Kitsap

7. Curtis

8. Graham Kapowsin

9. Bellarmine Prep
