Winningest 10 high school programs in WIAA state football tournament history

Some of them are the state of Washington’s traditional powerhouses in high school football. Others might surprise you.

Here are the top 10 top programs in the WIAA state playoffs, based on winning percentage from a minimum 10 games played through the 2018 season (per WIAA records):

1. HOCKINSON HAWKS, 10-2 (.833 winning percentage)

Built in 2003, Hockinson tops on strength of back-to-back 2A titles (2017-18).

2. SKYLINE SPARTANS, 42-9 (.824 winning percentage)

Won 3A title in state debut (2000) to start decade-long dominance (7 titles).

3. BELLEVUE WOLVERINES, 51-12 (.810 winning percentage)

After 4-6 start, powerhouse won 47 of next 53 games – and nine 3A crowns.

4. MOUNT TAHOMA THUNDERBIRDS, 10-3 (.769 winning percentage)

T-Birds have made most of brief appearances (5) with 4A titles in 1979-80.

5. ARCHBISHOP MURPHY WILDCATS, 33-10 (.767 winning percentage)

Captured 1A title in first two appearances (2002-03); three state titles in all.

6. LYNDEN LIONS, 62-21 (.745 winning percentage)

Lions’ profile unlike any other having played in 3A, 2A and 1A title games.

7. LIBERTY CHRISTIAN PATRIOTS, 8-3 (.727 winning percentage)

2012 1B state champions just make cut, winning eight games from 2012-15.

8. ROYAL KNIGHTS, 53-21 (.716 winning percentage)

Royal pain! Only program with 50 or more state victories since 1994.

9. EPHRATA TIGERS, 22-9 (.710 winning percentage)

Haven’t been to state since 2007, but was in four 1A title games (1986-90).

10. NAPAVINE TIGERS, 29-13 (.690 winning percentage)

Their 15 state wins over past half-decade only matched by 1A king Royal.



Just missed the cut: Ferris, 13-6 (.684); Tumwater, 51-24 (.680); Prosser, 50-24 (.676).
