THREE TO SEE

Isaac Barragan, running back

Othello’s scatback — Barragan is pure speed. The lightning to Perez’s thunder. Effective in space, used in outside runs, tosses.

Isaiah Perez, defensive end/full back

League’s defensive MVP as a junior. Big, powerful fullback, tight end and linebacker. The three-star BYU commit started at middle linebacker last season, but moved to defensive end. Said an opposing coach: “teams run away from him, not at him.” Said another: “He can ruin a game at nose guard.”

Elijah Roylance, lineman

First-team all-league selection as a guard. Impactful two-way starter. Mat Classic-competitive wrestler.

OUTLOOK

Othello returns a strong cast to execute its run-heavy power-option system, making the Huskies one of the teams to beat out of the CWAC, and one that has the talent to be competitive in the postseason.

That centers around the team’s offensive and defensive focal point: Isaiah Perez.

The hulking, speedy defensive end/fullback has been a nightmare for opposing teams in years past, and his senior season should be no different. With speedy Isaac Barragan as the counterpart to the Huskies’ two-back system, the question is will they have enough firepower to outdo last season’s finish, in which they lost in a tiebreaker ahead of the CWAC crossover.
