THREE TO SEE

Jordan Rua, wide receiver / defensive back

Started both ways in 2018 — doesn’t have great size but can turn on the burners.

Ian Valdovinos

All-league selection at tackle last season, can be seen burying defenders this fall.

Brent VanderVeen, wide receiver / defensive back

This kid can do everything, and coach Ward will try to get the ball in his hands as much as possible this season.

OUTLOOK

The Cubs enter the 2019 season after a disappointing 3-6 record last year, which earned them a fourth place finish in an ultra-competitive NWC Sky Division. They’ll have a tough time competing in their division this season, but veteran head coach Dave Ward, who steps into his 29th season at Sedro, will surely have something up his sleeve for this group.

Coach Ward returns his two-way stud in WR/DB Brent VanderVeen, who was a first team all-league selection on both sides of the ball last year.

VanderVeen has offers from the likes of the Naval Academy, Air Force, and Eastern Washington, with more surely to come.

They lose a pretty big group of seniors coming into this season, including quarterback Carter Trammell, who will leave the Cubs with a big void to fill.
