Former Central Valley girls basketball coach Freddie Rehkow, who was named the 2017-18 National High School Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year, has been working with Scorebook Live to shine a light on girls basketball players and coaches across the state of Washington.
Rehkow recently caught up with Lynden Christian girls basketball coach Brady Bomber, who is in his fifth season with the Lyncs. Bomber has his team positioned for another state tournament run as the Lyncs are 19-3 and ranked No. 3 in the latest WIAA 1A girls basketball RPI rankings.
Why did you get into coaching?
After finishing my playing career, I had moved back home to Lynden and missed the game. I saw coaching as an opportunity to get involved in the game again as well as a chance to have a positive impact on kids and try to help them enjoy the game I love.
What are your coaching aspirations?
I just want to try to maintain the standard of excellence Hall of Fame Coach Curt DeHaan built at Lynden Christian and serve the current and future Lady Lyncs to the best of my abilities.
Who is your coaching mentor?
I have a handful of coaches that are constantly investing in me. They include Curt DeHaan, Brian Roper, Rob Adams, Roger DeBoer and Jeremy Landram. I’m thankful to have these great coaches be willing to help a young coach like myself.
