7 questions with Evan Dirksen, senior at Columbia River High School

How would you describe your game?

A lot of people describe me as a throw back player because of my fundamentals and mid-range game. I think I am a versatile player who understands court spacing and off-ball movement. I’m capable of scoring at all three levels playing as a big guard or small forward.

What are your goals for the season, both individually and as a team?

Individual: First Team All-League, Be a POY League Candidate

Team: Win the 2a GSHL league outright, Win District, Be a Top 8 RPI team and Place at State.

How would you describe your coach?

Coach Long is competitive and emphasizes doing things the right way. At the same time he is personable, funny, and we know that he really cares about us and has our back.

Who is your favorite player?

Gordon Hayward

Who is your toughest matchup of the season and why?

Skyview is always a tough matchup. They have really good athletes, a great coach, and run a match-up zone that we don’t see very often. Our schools are located a couple of miles apart so we know each other really well.

What is your favorite gym in the state to play in?

Sundome in Yakima. Love the playoff experience and knowing you are playing in a big-time environment.

What are your aspirations as a player?

I signed a scholarship offer from Menlo College in November. Knowing where I am going after high school allows me to focus on my workouts in the gym and the weight room and really just keep developing as a player. I hope to have an early impact at Menlo and have a great playing career there.
