Top stars, best performances from Week 8 (Oct. 14-16) in Texas high school football

From Garland QB Cergio Perez (332 total yards, 7 TDs) to Fort Bend Marshall DB Adari Haulcy (2 INT-return TDs), there were lots of players across the state who stood out during Week 8 of the 2021 Texas high school football season. Here’s a look at the top individual performances around the state for Oct. 14-16.

TOP STARS IN TEXAS HS FOOTBALL FOR OCT. 14-16:

PASSING STARS

Cergio Perez, Garland QB

In Thursday’s game against Sachse, Perez was 20-of-24 passing for 322 yards and six touchdown throws in a 54-41 win. He also ran for 10 yards and a rushing score on three carries.

Rashawn Galloway, Boerne QB

Galloway threw for 375 yards and five touchdowns in a 54-17 win against Uvalde on Thursday.

Brad Jackson, Cypress Creek QB

Jackson threw for 375 yards and a career-high six touchdowns and ran for a score in a 60-20 victory over Houston Spring Woods.

Mabrey Mettauer, The Woodlands QB

Friday’s game against Conroe Oak Ridge saw Mettauer complete 16 of 23 passes for 325 yards and three TDs through the air and add 34 yards and a touchdown on the ground on five carries in a 48-24 victory.

Ashton Dubose, San Antonio Brennan QB

In Friday’s game against San Antonio O’Connor, Dubose went 15-of-24 for 273 yards with three touchdown throws in addition to running for 128 yards and two rushing TDs on nine carries in a 54-7 win. 

Kendron Penson, Fort Bend Hightower QB

In Thursday’s game against Fort Bend Kempner, Penson was 11-of-13 passing for 151 yards and three touchdown passes and ran for a 15-yard touchdown in a 61-0 rout.

Jake Sock, Pearland QB

Sock completed 16 of 28 passes for 314 yards and three TDs and ran for 44 yards and a score on 10 carries in a 36-30 win over Alief Taylor on Friday.

Brennan Storer, Highland Park QB

Medina went 17-of-22 for 272 yards and five passing TDs while adding 22 rushing yards on five carries in a 59-24 victory over McKinney North on Friday.

PJ Hatter, Klein Oak QB

Hatter was 8-of-11 passing for 125 yards and two TDs and he added 112 yards and a pair of rushing TDs on 19 carries in a 31-14 win over Tomball.

Cardell Williams, Spring Westfield QB

In Thursday’s game against Aldine MacArthur, Williams was 10-of-13 passing for 158 yards and four touchdown throws in a 70-0 blowout. He also ran for 38 yards and a rushing score on two carries.

Ryan Rizo, Natalia QB

Rizo threw for 183 yards and five TDs on 10-of-18 passing and ran for 22 yards and a rushing score on four carries in a dominant 50-6 win over Nixon-Smiley.

Nick Evers, Flower Mound QB

Evers completed 21 of 33 pass attempts for 306 yards and two touchdown throws and also ran for 75 yards and three rushing TDs on 13 carries in Permian’s 42-35 victory against Plano East.

Jake Strong, Justin Northwest QB

Strong was 21-of-29 passing for 324 yards and two touchdown throws and also ran eight times for 90 yards in Northwest’s 43-0 win over Crowley.

Bert Emanuel Jr, Fort Bend Ridge Point QB

Emanuel threw for 161 yards and two TDs on 10-of-22 passing and ran for 113 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 15 carries in a 35-20 victory against Richmond George Ranch in district play.

Jacob Wilson, Trophy Club Byron Nelson QB

Wilson went 20-of-43 for 405 yards and five TDs in Byron Nelson’s 45-42 win over Keller Fossil Ridge. He also ran seven times for 41 yards.

Kaid Barrett, Fort Worth Wyatt QB

Barrett threw for 426 yards and eight TDs on 25-of-43 passing and also ran for two rushing touchdowns and 8 yards on five carries in a 79-73 shootout win over Carrollton Creekview.

Garrett Palacio, Carrollton Creekview QB

Palacio threw for 332 yards and seven touchdowns on 13-of-21 passing in Creekview’s 79-73 shootout loss to Fort Worth Wyatt.

John Mateer, Little Elm QB

Mateer completed 21 of 36 passes for 326 yards and also ran for 143 yards and four rushing TDs on 24 carries in a 48-44 loss to McKinney Boyd.

Christian Edgar, Austin Westlake QB

Edgar went 9-of-10 passing for 188 yards and four TDs in his first career start in a 77-0 win against Buda Hays. He also ran for 104 yards and two rushing scores on three carries.

Anthony Njoku, Fort Bend Travis QB

Pell tallied 222 yards and four touchdowns through the air on 10-of-13 passing in a 41-0 victory over Fort Bend Clements on Saturday.

Alexander Franklin, Lucas Lovejoy QB

Franklin went 14-of-19 for 327 yards and six passing TDs in Lovejoy’s 55-7 win over Lake Dallas.

Mason Shorb, Leander Rouse QB

Shorb completed 18 of 22 passes for 371 yards and six touchdown throws in Rouse’s 63-16 rout of Bastrop Cedar Creek on Thursday.

Sawyer Anderson, Dallas Parish Episcopal QB

Anderson was 19-of-23 passing for 291 yards and five touchdown passes in a 49-13 district win over Dallas Bishop Lynch.

Easton Sweetnam, Frisco Centennial QB

In Friday’s game against The Colony, Millsap went 33-of-46 for 414 yards with three passing TDs and a rushing score in a 50-36 loss.

Ryder Lambert, Stephenville QB

Lambert went 14-of-17 passing for 277 yards and four TDs to help Stephenville stay undefeated in a 56-0 blowout win against Alvarado. He also rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown on four runs.

RUSHING STARS

Tyras Winfield, Humble Atascocita RB

Winfield rushed for 161 yards and three TDs on 27 carries in Atascocita’s 42-21 district win over previously unbeaten Houston C.E. King.

Re’Shaun Sanford, Killeen Harker Heights RB

Sanford ran for 336 yards, breaking his own program record and setting a new all-time high for Killeen ISD schools, and four rushing touchdowns in a 57-56 win against Killeen Shoemaker on Friday night.

Damyrion Phillips, Katy Paetow RB

In a 74-0 district victory against Rosenberg Terry, Phillips rushed eight times for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

Ben McCreary, San Antonio Johnson RB

McCreary toted the ball 38 times for 246 yards and four rushing TDs in Johnson’s 42-35 victory over San Antonio Madison.

Robert Fitzgerald, Dallas Jesuit RB/FS

Fitzgerald rushed 12 times for 138 yards and three TDs and added two catches for 21 receiving yards in a 49-14 win over Irving Nimitz.

Ashton Jeanty, Frisco Lone Star RB

Jeanty rushed for 171 yards and four TDs on 23 carries and caught four passes for 41 yards in Lone Star’s 33-3 win against Frisco Wakeland.

John Jackson, Seguin RB

Jackson rushed for 213 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries in a 37-14 victory against San Antonio McCallum.

Kingsley Bennett, Garland Naaman Forest RB

Bennett ran the ball 26 times for 205 yards and six touchdowns in Naaman Forest’s 42-21 win over Wylie.

Donovan Shannon, Prosper Rock Hill RB

Shannon ran 32 times for 205 yards and three TDs in a 31-20 win against Frisco Memorial on Thursday night.

Daviawn Bishop, Dallas White RB

Bishop carried the ball 10 times for 266 yards and five touchdowns and caught a 16-yard pass in White’s 62-7 win over Dallas Samuell.

Joseph Sanders, Aldine Nimitz RB

Sanders rushed for 261 yards and three TDs on 20 carries in Nimitz’s 38-31 win over Aldine Eisenhower.

Reece Sylvester, Baytown Sterling QB

Sylvester rushed 12 times for 173 yards and all three of his team’s touchdowns on the ground in Sterling’s 27-17 victory against Baytown Goose Creek Memorial. He also threw for 149 yards and a score on 5-of-12 passing.

Jackson Kraatz, Keller RB

Kraatz tallied 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries in addition to an 11-yard reception in a 38-14 win over Keller Timber Creek on Friday night.

Daiquan Landon, Richardson Pearce RB

Landon rushed 22 times for 183 yards and three touchdowns in Pearce’s 52-13 victory over Richardson.

Andrew Christian, Premont RB

In a 22-6 victory against Santa Maria, Christian ran 17 times for 244 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Elijah Uribe, El Paso Eastlake RB/QB

Uribe carried the ball 45 times for 292 yards and seven rushing touchdowns, both career highs, in Eastlake’s 59-41 win over El Paso Eastwood.

Rueben Owens, El Campo RB

Owens toted the ball 20 times for a season-high 342 yards and five rushing TDs in El Campo’s 69-47 victory over Brazosport.

Miles McWhorter, El Paso Franklin RB

McWhorter ran for 173 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries in a 51-0 win against El Paso Socorro on Friday.

Tristan Bittle, Arlington Martin RB

Washington rushed for 141 yards and two TDs on six carries in a 68-23 district win over Arlington Bowie.

Xavier Wishert, Tuscola Jim Ned RB

Wishert carried the ball 20 times for 313 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-20 win over Wall.

Jaylen Jenkins, Allen RB

Perkins rushed 15 times for 190 yards and three touchdowns in Allen’s 38-31  upset victory over previously unbeaten Denton Guyer.

Jerbrandin Henderson, Irving MacArthur RB

Henderson ran for 129 yards and four TDs on 17 carries in a 48-26 victory against Irving in district play.

Noah Camacho, Austin Bowie RB

Nelson ran for 159 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries in a 51-6 win over Austin Akins on Friday.

Josh Gomez, Edcouch-Elsa RB

Gomez set a new single-game program rushing record after he rumbled for 316 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground on 16 carries in a 63-0 rout against PSJA Memorial.

Makjilyn Young, Midland Legacy RB

Young rushed 12 times for 186 yards and four TDs on the ground in a 65-0 win over Odessa.

Richard Reese, Bellville RB

Reese toted the ball 21 times for 255 yards and four rushing TDs and also caught a 40-yard touchdown pass in Bellville’s 42-7 victory over Sealy.

Epi Hinojosa, Corpus Christi Calallen RB

Hinojosa ran for 242 yards and a trio of rushing touchdowns on 23 carries in Calallen’s two-day 55-33 win over Corpus Christi Miller. (Epi Hinojosa pictured in featured photo above by Blake Purcel)

Marquise Collins, College Station RB

Collins rushed 10 times for 152 yards and three touchdowns in a 76-0 district win over Cleveland. He also caught a 3-yard touchdown pass.

Jonathan McCoy, Bellaire RB

McCoy toted the ball 19 times for 243 yards and four rushing TDs and also caught a 30-yard pass in Bellaire’s 45-7 victory over Houston MST on Saturday.

RECEIVING STARS

Riley Pechacek, Boerne WR

Pechacek caught three passes for 180 yards and three TDs in a dominant 54-17 win against Uvalde.

Hunter Krepp, Dallas Jesuit WR

Krepp caught 10 passes for 203 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 56-7 win over Irving Nimitz.

Javier Murillo, San Antonio Southwest Legacy WR

Murillo recorded eight receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown in a 16-10 rivalry-game win against San Antonio Southwest.

Ja’Ryan Wallace, Denton Braswell WR

Wallace tallied 12 catches for 232 yards and four TDs in a dominant 49-14 win over McKinney.

Dorian Washington, Houston Westside WR

Washington caught 10 passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-19 win against Houston Heights.

Cameron Price, Houston St. Thomas WR

Price hauled in 13 passes for 198 yards and a touchdown in a 35-14 victory over San Antonio Antonian.

Randy Reece, South Oak Cliff WR

Reece caught four passes for 129 yards and two TDs in a 62-14 win against Seagoville.

Nasir Allah, Euless Trinity WR

Allah accounted for all of his teams receiving yards by catching three passes for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Trinity’s 56-7 win against Fort Worth Chisholm Trail.

Gavin McCurley, Trophy Club Byron Nelson WR

McCurley tallied six receptions for 127 yards and a trio of receiving touchdowns in a 45-42 win over Keller Fossil Ridge.

Randy Masters, Houston Yates WR

Masters caught six passes for 112 yards and a receiving touchdown and also ran for a 56-yard rushing score in a loss to Houston Furr.

D’Andre Fillmore, Victoria West WR

Fillmore snagged seven passes for 127 yards and two TDs in West’s 66-14 district win against Corpus Christi Ray.

Ryan Salas, Alice WR

Salas tallied nine catches for 152 yards and a touchdown reception in a 27-23 win over Beeville.

Drayden Dickmann, Austin Anderson WR

Dickmann caught six passes for 122 yards and a touchdown in a 41-26 victory over Austin Anderson. He also returned a kickoff 90 yards for a special teams score.

Sean Sallis, Carrollton Creekview TE

Sallis caught seven passes for 201 yards and three receiving TDs in Creekview’s shootout loss to Fort Worth Wyatt.

Takoda Bridges, Carrollton Hebron WR

Bridges snagged seven receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-12 win against Coppell.

Ashton Cozart, Flower Mound Marcus WR

Cozart caught three passes for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 37-14 victory over Plano West.

Grayson O’Bara, Denton Guyer WR

O’Bara hauled in 12 receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown in a 38-31 loss to Allen.

Makavion Potts, Tyler WR

Potts caught four passes for 181 yards and two receiving TDs in a 48-10 victory against Wylie East.

Nevon Cooper, San Antonio Madison WR

Cooper hauled in three passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to San Antonio Johnson on Saturday.

Dillon Coleman, San Antonio Roosevelt WR

Coleman had five catches for 111 yards and two TDs in a 30-27 win over San Antonio Clark.

Coy Eakin, Stephenville WR

Eakin racked up 135 yards and three receiving TDs on three catches in a shutout win against Alvarado.

Jamarion Evans, Center WR

Evans caught five passes for 131 yards and two TDs in Center’s 60-44 win over Shepherd on Friday.

Zeke Long, McKinney Christian WR

Long hauled in all five of McKinney Christian’s touchdown receptions and 212 yards on seven catches in a 35-27 victory against Tyler Grace Community.

Deuce McGregor, Tyler Chapel Hill WR

McGregor snagged eight catches for 163 yards and a pair of receiving touchdowns in a 41-20 loss to Kilgore.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS STARS

Gregory Featherstone III, San Antonio Reagan DB

Featherstone returned two blocked punts 30 and 9 yards for a pair of special teams touchdowns in a 56-7 win over San Antonio MacArthur.

Harold Perkins, Cypress Park LB/RB

Perkins snagged a fourth-quarter interception, accounted for 106 total yards on nine touches offensively and scored on a 57-yard touchdown reception on the first drive of the game in a 35-13 victory against Cypress Bridgeland.

Treshawn Johnson, San Antonio East Central DB

Johnson ran a kickoff return back 99 yards for a special teams touchdown in East Central’s 30-28 victory over Converse Judson on Friday night.

David De Hoyos, Smithson Valley DB

De Hoyos returned a blocked punt 31 yards for a special teams touchdown in a dominant 41-6 win against South San Antonio.

Adari Haulcy, Fort Bend Marshall DB

Haulcy scored a pair of defensive touchdowns after running interceptions back 67 and 23 yards to the end zone in Marshall’s 56-7 district win over Fort Bend Willowridge.

Luke Laminack, Amarillo DB

Turner tallied 12 tackles, two interceptions, a pass deflection and a pick-six defensively and added four extra-point and two field-goal kicks in Amarillo’s 34-27 victory over Lubbock Coronado.

Donavin Carraway, Texas City DB

Carraway secured three interceptions in and racked up three tackles and two pass breakups in Texas City’s 14-2 win over Nederland to stay undefeated.
