Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Texas High School Athlete of the Week for Aug. 23-29 as selected by SBLive’s staff. We looked at every region of the state and selected an athlete in each region that had a standout performance. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. Voting will conclude on Sunday at 11:59 p.m and the winner will be announced Monday, Sept. 6. THIS WEEK’S TEXAS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:

Ray Hernandez, El Paso Cathedral wide receiver

Hernandez grabbed six receptions for 236 yards and four touchdowns, including a 90-yard touchdown catch, in Cathderal’s 54-0 win over Tornillo.

Conner Weigman, Cypress Bridgeland quarterback

Weigman threw for 365 yards on 21-of-28 passing, ran for 120 yards and added a 45-yard touchdown reception to account for eight total touchdowns to lead Bridgeland to a 54-14 win over Klein Cain.

EJ Ezar, Bryan Rudder quarterback

Ezar threw for 401 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-26 passing and ran for 34 yards and a touchdown in Rudder’s 50-23 win over Bastrop.

Epi Hinojosa, Corpus Christi Calallen running back

Hinojosa led the state in rushing for Week 1 after running for 313 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 20 carries and led the way in Calallen’s 41-19 win over Gregory-Portland.
