Sheldon 36, Glencoe 29: Quarterbacks Brock Thomas and Royce Fasel were in on all nine touchdowns as the Irish of Eugene defeated the host Crimson Tide at Hare Field in Hillsboro.
Thomas rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two. Fasel ran for three and passed for a fourth.
Fasel’s first score, a three-yard run, put the Crimson Tide up 7-0. Sheldon answered with two scoring runs by Thomas for a 14-7 lead.
The Crimson Tide made the score 21-21 on Zack Schlottmann’s 80-yard catch early in the third quarter, and Glencoe went ahead 29-28 on Fasel’s final score, a 7-yard run, followed by a conversion run by the quarterback midway through the fourth.
Thomas scored on a 29-yard keeper with about 5:15 left and passed for the conversion and the seven-point lead. Glencoe’s final drive reached the Sheldon 48 before Grafton Robinson made an interception near midfield.
“Hard-fought, physical high school football game,” said Irish coach Josh Line, who credited Keegan Line for a big hit on defense that forced a key turnover.
Thomas carried 17 times for 150 yards and was 16 of 26 passing for 247 yards with an interception. Fasel ran 29 times for 273 yards and was 2 of 5 for 95 yards passing — including the 80-yard connection with Schlottmann.
