Mark Hamper, Chase Harmon help West Linn fight off Jesuit in Week 1 showdown

West Linn 17, Jesuit 3: Mark Hamper caught the go-ahead touchdown pass in the third quarter and made a fourth-quarter interception to quash a Jesuit drive, sparking the visiting Lions to victory over the Crusaders of Beaverton at Cronin Field.

Hamper’s touchdown grab on a play of about 50 yards put the Lions ahead 10-3 with 7½ minutes left in the third quarter. Chase Harmon passed for both of the Lions’ touchdowns.

The teams traded field goals by sophomore kickers in the second quarter — a 21-yarder by Gage Hurych for the Lions and a 40-yarder by Kadyn Butcher for the Crusaders — to forge a 3-3 halftime score.
