Another day, another announcement of a game canceled because of COVID considerations.
On Tuesday, it was Friday night’s season opener between Mt. Hood Conference rivals Clackamas and Gresham that made the chopping block because of COVID-19 issues in the Gophers program.
The game has been listed on the OSAA website as a forfeit, with Clackamas being awarded a 1-0 victory.
“We’re just working our butts off to try to find another game,” said Cavaliers coach James Holan, who’d like to have a game under his belt before a Week 2 matchup with 2019 Washington Class 4A champion Camas.
If the Cavaliers do find a last-minute opponent for Week 1, it would not affect the status of the forfeited game. Per the OSAA handbook, Clackamas would not go over its contest limit of nine regular-season games by scheduling a new opponent.
