Woodburn 15, Sweet Home 8: The Bulldogs exploited four Huskies turnovers and a solid defensive front to win in Sweet Home.
Jordan Blem ran for one touchdown and passed to Micah Nava for another touchdown for the Bulldogs (1-3).
The Huskies (2-2) got a six-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion by Daniel Luttrell, who finished with 122 yards on 14 carries and had an interception on defense. Cade Gaskey added 64 yards on 10 rushes as Sweet Home piled up 222 yards on the ground.
Bulldogs coach Ken Mace said pressure on the Huskies quarterback was an important part of the game, praising linebackers Nava and Jackson Pickett and linemen Liua Falepapalangi and Santi Roque. Mace also lauded the running of Nava, Cole Beyer and Tómas Veliz.
“It was a great team and culture win for our program against a very good and talented Sweet Home program,” Mace said in a text.
The victory ended an eight-game losing streak for the Bulldogs and was the first at Woodburn for first-year coach Mace.
