La Grande nips Vale thanks to late touchdown, extra point

No. 9 La Grande 20, Vale 19: The Tigers (2-0) got a touchdown and the decisive extra point midway through the fourth quarter to defeat the host Vikings (1-2), who led 13-6 after the first quarter and 19-13 in the third.

After La Grande went ahead in the fourth, Vale forced a fumble and recovered at its 4 with 39 seconds left, but after gaining about 30 yards, the Vikings’ desperation fourth-down pass was incomplete.

Vale’s Tanner Steele was 11 of 18 for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for a three-yard score.  John Wolfe (five catches, 94 yards) caught both of Steele’s touchdown passes.
