SBLive’s Georgia Top 25: Milton notches huge out-of-state win, a feat Buford hopes to repeat Friday

Collins Hill is in the same place it’s been since our preseason rankings, but there’s been all kinds of movement from outside No. 1 over the past five weeks.

After a Week 2 loss at North Cobb — playing without star defender Lebbeus Overton — Milton (photo above by Josh Major) has climbed all the way back into the Top 5 after a 28-21 win in Philadelphia on Saturday over nationally ranked St. Joseph’s Prep.

This week, No. 2 Buford hosts Top 10 Florida team Chaminade-Madonna as the Wolves eye Collins Hill at No. 1.

Here are SBLive’s Top 25 Georgia high school football rankings heading into Week 5. The statewide rankings span all classifications.


1. Collins Hill (4-0)

Last week: 1

Collins Hill remains undefeated and at the top of the SBLive Georgia Top 25 for the fifth consecutive week after shutting out Rome 34-0.

2. Buford (3-0)

Last week: 2

Buford hosted Myers Park (N.C.) in Week 4 and won 44-17 to remain undefeated. Another home win over another top out-of state team (Chaminade-Madonna in Florida) on Friday could give Buford a solid claim at No. 1.

3. Lee County (4-0)

Last week: 3

Lee County is still undefeated after its toughest test of the year vs. Lowndes in Week 4. Freshman running back Ousmane Kromah led Lee’s offense in the 24-21 win. 

4. North Cobb (2-1)

Last week: 5

North Cobb came off a bye week hitting on all cylinders in Week 4, beating Alpharetta 43-7. 

5. Milton (3-1)

Last week: 7

Milton went on the road to face nationally ranked St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia in Week 4 and came away with a huge 28-21 win. 

6. Grayson (3-1)

Last week: 6

The underdog, Archer, nearly pulled off the upset, but Grayson managed to escape with a 15-13 win at home. 

7. Warner Robins (3-0)

Last week: 9

Warner Robins got its fifth win in a row over Northside Warner Robins in Middle GA’s biggest rivalry. Both teams were previously undefeated, but Warner Robins dominated its rival 49-7. 

8. Mill Creek (3-0)

Last week: 8

Mill Creek had a bye in Week 4 and will travel to face West Forsyth (2-1) on Friday in Cumming. 

9. Walton (3-1)

Last week: 4

Walton fell to West Forsyth 51-35 in Week 4, suffering its first loss of the year in a shootout. 

10. Cartersville (3-0)

Last week: 11

Cartersville hosted Creekside and sent the Seminoles home with their first loss of the year after a thrilling 17-14 victory. 

11. Colquitt County (3-1)

Last week: 12

Colquitt County traveled to face Valdosta in Death Valley for a game that went back and forth until the very end. Colquitt won 48-42. 

12. Langston Hughes (3-1)

Last week: 15

Hughes faced Mays on the road in Atlanta and left with an easy 34-6 victory. 

13. Creekside (2-1)

Last week: 10

Creekside traveled to Cartersville and suffered its first loss of the year in a hard-fought 17-14 finish. 

14. Carrollton (3-0)

Last week: 14

Carrollton had a bye in Week 4 and will face the Dalton Catamounts (1-2) on the road Friday.

15. Lowndes (2-2)

Last week: 13

Lowndes traveled to Lee County to face the Trojans and lost 24-21. To Lowndes’ credit, Lee won its previous two games by scores of 64-0 and 60-0.

16. West Forsyth (2-1)

Last week: Unranked

West Forsyth leaps into the Top 25 with a big Week 4 win over Walton. Its only loss this season was a seven-point defeat against No. 10 Cartersville.

17. Westlake (2-1)

Last week: 17

Westlake had a bye in Week 4 and will face Mays (0-3) on Friday in Atlanta. 

18. Jefferson (4-0)

Last week: 18

Jefferson remains undefeated after beating Mountain View 48–17 in week 4. 

19. East Coweta (4-0)

Last week: 19

East Coweta beat Meadowcreek 36-13 at home to remain undefeated. 

20. Fitzgerald (3-0)

Last week: 21

Fitzgerald beat Dodge County 15-6 on the road in Week 4 to remain undefeated. 

21. Valdosta (1-3)

Last week: 20

Valdosta made its presence felt against Colquitt County as underdogs, but fell to the Packers 48-42 in Week 4. 

22. Rabun County (2-1)

Last week: 25 

Rabun County traveled north to face defending North Carolina state champion Murphy and left with a dominant 59-14 win. 

23. Marist (2-1)

Last week: 24

Marist shut out Hampton on the road to bounce back from a close loss last week with a convincing 37-0 victory. 

24. Woodward Academy (3-0)

Last week: 23

Woodward had a bye in Week 4 and will face Mundy’s Mill (0-2) in Jonesboro on Thursday. 

25. Rome (2-1)

Last week: 22

Rome suffered its first loss of the year to No. 1 Collins Hill, a 34-0 shutout.
