SBLive Power 10 Montana high school football rankings, Week 9: Top-ranked Missoula Sentinel has season-finale test at No. 7 Butte

Each week, SBLive Montana will update its all-classification top-10 high school football rankings.

Here is the Week 9 list, compiled by SBLive Montana correspondent Doug Drowley:

1. MISSOULA SENTINEL (7-0)

Last week: Beat Capital, 32-0.

This week: Travels to No. 8 Butte on Thursday.

Spartans get another Top 10 opponent as they try to complete an undefeated regular season and extend winning streak to 18 in a row ahead of a AA title defense.

2. BILLINGS WEST (7-1)

Last week: Beat C M Russell, 49-20.

This week: Hosts Bozeman on Friday night.

Golden Bears finally gave up some points, but still have outscored their last seven opponents 302-37 since a three-point loss to open the season against Sentinel.

3. HAMILTON (7-0)

Last week: Beat Libby, 48-14.

This week: Hosts Columbia Falls on Friday night.

Broncs close regular season with a tough opponent in the one-loss Wildcats, second behind Polson in the Northwest.

4. LAUREL (7-0)

Last week: Beat Glendive, 14-10.

This week: Hosts Havre on Friday night.

Locomotives try to finish off unbeaten regular season before defending their 2020 state title, coming off one of their closest games of the season.

5. FLORENCE-CARLTON (7-0)

Last week: Beat Whitehall/Harrison, 54-7.

This week: Hosts Bigfork on Friday night.

Falcons finish at home trying to stay unbeaten headed into the post-season against a Vikings squad coming off its first loss of the year.

6. HELENA (6-2)

Last week: Beat Big Sky, 42-7.

This week: Neutral game against Capital on Friday night.

Bengals need a victory over cross-town rivals in regular-season finale to secure third place in the West.

7. BUTTE (5-2)

Last week: Beat Hellgate, 30-27.

This week: Hosts No. 1 Sentinel on Thursday night. 

Bulldogs came back from a two-possession deficit to beat the Wolfpack and now go on the road against a skilled, but so far less-than-successful opponent.

8. POLSON (8-0)

Last week: Beat Hellgate, 30-27.

This week: Hosts No. 1 Sentinel on Thursday night.

9. HELENA CAPITAL (5-3)

Last week: Lost to Sentinel, 32-0.

This week: Neutral game against Helena on Friday night.

Bruins complete regular season against cross-town rivals with at least third place in the West on the line. A victory coupled with a Butte loss to Sentinel makes them the second seed to the playoffs.

10. BOZEMAN (5-3)

Last week: Beat Gallatin, 38-35.

This week: Travel to No. 2 Billings West on Friday night.

Hawks suffered a couple of early setbacks, but have soared to second behind Golden Bears in the East and finish the regular season at the region leader.
