How the SBLive Power 10 Montana high school football teams fared in Week 8: Convincing mid-October wins by Missoula Sentinel, Billings West in top spots

Each week, SBLive will rank the top 10 teams across the state of Montana regardless of classification. Here’s a look at how those teams fared in games played in Week 8 of the high school football season.

1. MISSOULA SENTINEL 7-0 (AA) beats No. 8 Helena Capital, 32-0

That is three consecutive shutout victories posted by the Spartans, who hold Capital – a top-10 team – to 77 total yards on offense.

2. BILLINGS WEST 7-1 (AA) beats No. 10 CM Russell, 42-20

Just like that, Bears score twice in first four minutes of third quarter to break 14-14 tie – last one on QB Isaiah Claunch’s long pass to WR Taco Dowler.

3. HAMILTON 7-0 (A) beats Libby, 48-14

After slow first half, QB Tyson Rostad heats up with four second-half touchdown passes – three of them 25 yards or longer.

4. LAUREL 7-0 (A) beats Glendive, 14-10

Reigning ‘A’ champions do all their scoring in first 14 minutes, capped by QB Kyson Moran’s 76-yard touchdown pass to Emmet Renner.

5. FLORENCE-CARLTON 6-0 (B) vs. Whitehall/Harrison

No information available.

6. HELENA 6-2 (AA) beats Big Sky, 42-7

QB Kaden Huot had touchdown passes right at the end of the second and third quarters, but Marcus Evans’ punt block was needed spark.

7. BUTTE 5-2 (AA) beats Hellgate, 30-27 (Thu.)

Calm and collected, QB Jace Stenson is the comeback hero with his fourth-down touchdown pass to Cameron Gurnsey with five minutes to go.

8. HELENA CAPITAL 4-3 (AA) loses to No. 1 Sentinel, 32-0

Tough enough to beat Spartans playing well, but Bruins fumble on kickoff return, get punt blocked and drop passes inside Sentinel territory.

9. POLSON 8-0 (A) beats Browning, 41-0

QB Jarrett Wilson (five TD passes) inches closer and closer to more single-season Montana passing marks with big showing in shutout win.

10. CM RUSSELL 5-3 (AA) loses to No. 2 Billings West, 42-20

How different would outcome have been if Rustlers score inside Bears’ 5 to take lead in final seconds of first half? Moot point now.
