Top stars in opening week of 2021 Mississippi high school football season

From Ocean Springs QB Bray Hubbard (6 TDs) to Kemper County RB Dicenzo Miller Jr. (221 all-purpose yards, 4 TDs), there were dozens of standout high school football performances across the state of Mississippi during the opening weekend of the 2021 season. Here’s a look at Mississippi’s top stars for Aug. 26-28.

AUG. 26-28 – TOP STARS IN MISSISSIPPI HS FOOTBALL

Brewer Bailey, Tupelo Christian Prep Safety: Bailey had 21 tackles in TCP’s 42-28 loss to Clarkdale.

Dayan Bilbo, Vancleave RB: Bilbo rushed 49 times for 405 yards and five touchdowns in Vancleave’s 44-28 win over St. Martin.

Christopher Burnett, Yazoo City QB: Burnett threw for 257 yards and four TDs and ran for 56 yards to lead Yazoo City to a 34-33 win over Callaway.

Brandon Gladney, Northwest Rankin QB: Gladney threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns in Northwest Rankin’s 42-26 loss to Ridgeland.

Jamar Grace, Kemper County ATH: Grace hauled in two touchdown catches and had an interception on defense in Kemper County’s 47-20 win over Leake Central.

Chancellor Greer, Philadelphia RB: Greer rushed 22 times for 103 yards and a touchdown in Philadelphia’s 35-14 loss to Meridian.

Bray Hubbard, Ocean Springs QB: Hubbard was a one-man wrecking crew for the Greyhounds, rushing for four TDs and passing for two more to lead Ocean Springs to a 45-44 double overtime win over Clinton. Hubbard finished with 88 rushing yards and 205 passing yards.

Quindarrius Jones, Meridian WR: Jones racked up 112 yards receiving and caught two touchdown passes in Meridian’s 35-14 win over Philadelphia.

Drey Lenoir, D’Iberville RB: Lenoir rushed 13 times for 109 yards and a touchdown in D’Iberville’s 12-0 win over Moss Point.

Marlon Lindsey, West Jones QB: Lindsey was 16-of-29 passing for 229 yards with a touchdown and another score on the ground in West Jones’ 27-21 loss to Madison Central.

Cam Marion, Northwest Rankin RB: Marion rushed 17 times for 133 yards in Northwest Rankin’s 42-26 loss to Ridgeland.

Dicenzo Miller Jr., Kemper County RB: Miller rushed 11 times for 73 yards and three TDs, caught three passes for 47 yards and a TD, returned three kicks for 67 yards and one punt for 34 yards to lead Kemper County to a 47-20 win over Leake Central.

Ryan Poole, Petal RB: Poole was the workhorse for Petal, running 28 times for 92 hard-won yards and a game-winning 10-yard touchdown to lift Petal to a 16-10 overtime win over Hattiesburg.

Jake Prather, Tupelo Christian Prep QB: Prather threw for 276 yards and three TDs in TCP’s 42-28 loss to Clarkdale.

Mark Smith, Meridian QB: Smith threw for 154 yards and three touchdowns to lift Meridian to a 35-14 win over Philadelphia.

Deandre Smith Jr., Greenville Christian QB: Smith rushed 11 times for 227 yards and three TDs and passed for 145 yards and another TD to lead Greenville Christian to a 58-0 win over J.Z. George.

Vic Sutton, Madison Central QB: Sutton finished the night 10-of-18 passing for 117 yards with three touchdowns to lead Madison Central to a 27-21 win over West Jones.

Tavares Wade, Hattiesburg QB: Wade had a breakout game, running 20 times for 163 yards and throwing a TD pass in a 16-10 overtime loss to Petal.

Max Walenta, Jackson Academy DE: Walenta had eight tackles and two sacks to help lead JA to a 37-0 win over Starkville Academy.

Ayden Williams, Ridgeland WR: Williams had four catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns in Ridgeland’s 42-26 win over Northwest Rankin.
