We didn’t see any big upsets in the first round of the 4A playoffs.

Every team in the North swept except for Kosciusko, which advanced with an 11-2 win Saturday night after splitting the first two games with North Pontotoc Thursday and Friday.

In the South, Poplarville and McComb went to a decisive third game, with the Hornets picking up a 14-3 win Saturday to clinch the series and advance.

North Pike also won a game three Saturday, beating

Greene County 7-1 after bouncing back from a game one loss Thursday night with an 11-5 win Friday.

The biggest matchup next week will feature the south’s top-ranked team, Sumrall, against a very good Vancleave team, which swept Florence this weekend.
