Every week during the 2021 baseball season, SBLive will rank the Top 10 high school baseball teams in the state of Mississippi, regardless of classification.
Here are the SBLive Power 10 baseball rankings for the week of March 29, as compiled by SBLive Sports reporter Tyler Cleveland.
SBLIVE POWER 10 BASEBALL RANKINGS
1. Madison Central (15-0)
Last week: No. 1
The Jaguars stayed perfect last week, taking back-to-back games from Northwest Rankin and St. Joe (Madison) by a combined score of 18-1. As good as the pitching has been, the offense is putting games away early.
2. Jackson Prep (20-2)
Last week: No. 2
The Patriots are on a roll after sweeping three games from Parklane Academy last week by a combined score of 18-2. Riley Maddox threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout in the opener, then the Pats put up 17 runs over the final 14 innings of the series.
3. Oxford (13-2)
Last week: No. 4
The Chargers picked up three wins last week, beating Center Hill 13-4, Scotts Hill (Tennessee) 10-0 and blowing out Horn Lake 14-1. The Oxford lineup hits top-to-bottom and the pitching just keeps getting better.
4. DeSoto Central (9-3)
Last week: No. 3
The Jaguars stumbled big time in their only game last week, using 10-0 to Northpoint Christian. They will get a chance to bounce back with three games against a great Lewisburg team this week.
5. Pearl River Central (15-1)
Last week: No. 5
The Blue Devils put the screws to Long Beach in back-to-back 4-0 wins over the Bearcats. Pitchers Justin Robinson, Landren Droddy and Gavin Brown combined to pitch 14 innings without giving up an earned run.
6. Sumrall (13-2)
Last week: No. 6
The Bobcats picked up home wins over Poplarville and St. Patrick last week, but the pitching has been the story. After Kros Sivley threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout against Poplarville, Andrew Knight, Hayden Nored and Marshall Phillips combined for another one-hit shutout against St. Patrick.
7. MRA (16-5)
Last week: No. 7
The Patriots swept three games from Copiah Academy early in the week by a combined score of 40-1 before getting torched by Brandon in an 18-2 loss Saturday. All eyes are on their three-game series with Jackson Prep this week, which begins Tuesday night.
8. Vancleave (13-3)
Last week: No. 8
The Bulldogs beat the brakes off of Moss Point, sweeping two games by a combined score of 33-1 to move to 2-0 in Region 8-4A. They’ve got two games against St. Stanislaus early this week before Saturday’s showdown with Long Beach.
9. Tupelo (13-3)
Last week: No. 9
The Golden Wave went 3-1 last week with wins over East Union, Scotts Hill (Tennessee) and Starkville and a 6-4 loss to Ripley. A big three-game series against Olive Branch begins this Tuesday night.
10. West Jones (13-3)
Last week: No. 10
The Mustangs ran their winning streak to four games last week, sweeping two games from Brookhaven by a combined score of 22-0. They’ve got two big games this week against South Jones (12-6) that will likely decide the early pecking order in Region 5-5A.
