SBLIVE POWER 10 BASEBALL RANKINGS

March 22, 2021

1. Madison Central (13-0)

Last week: No. 1

The Jaguars celebrated spring break by beating non-region opponents North Pike, Newton County and Neshoba Central by a combined score of 40-7. They have now scored 10 or more runs in 10 of their 13 games and have an average margin of victory of 10.9 runs.

2. Jackson Prep (16-2)

Last week: No. 3

The Patriots took a step up in competition last week and responded by going 3-0 against D’Iberville, West Harrison and Petal. You can’t swing a stick in the Prep dugout without hitting a sure-fire, future-Division 1 starter.

3. DeSoto Central (9-2)

Last week: No. 2

It was a busy week for the Jaguars, who went 3-2 in five games over spring break with wins over St. Stanislaus, Madison-Ridgeland Academy and South Panola and losses to Biloxi and Faith Academy (Ala.).

4. Oxford (10-2)

Last week: No. 5

The Chargers went 2-1 last week with victories over Saltillo and Houston and a loss to Collierville (Tenn.) that snapped a five-game winning streak.

5. Pearl River Central (13-1)

Last week: No. 6

The Blue Devils ran their winning streak to 11 games with back-to-back wins over Hancock by a combined score of 26-5. The pitching has been phenomenal, and it’ll need to be again this week, with two big games against Long Beach Tuesday and Friday and a trip to West Harrison set for Saturday.

6. Sumrall (11-2)

Last week: No. 7

The Bobcats enjoyed a little rest over spring break last week, winning their only game Friday night with a 13-1 romp over Stringer. Sumrall’s lineup is growing more consistent, and that’s bad news for the rest of Class 4A.

7. MRA (13-4)

Last week: No. 4

Last week started out so promising for the Patriots with back-to-back wins over gulf-coast heavyweights Gulfport and Vancleave, but MRA dropped three games in a row to George County, DeSoto Central and Resurrection Catholic to end the week.

8. Vancleave (11-3)

Last week: No. 8

The Bulldogs went 2-1 last week with wins over Pillow Academy and Oak Grove and a 9-1 loss to Madison-Ridgeland Academy. Starting pitchers Max Miller and Carson Robb are absolute studs. Just last week, they combined for pitch 10 innings, striking out 19 hitters without issuing a walk or giving up a hit.

9. Tupelo (10-2)

Last week: No. 9

The Golden Wave took it easy last week, winning back-to-back road games over Pontotoc and Itawamba AHS by a combined score of 22-2. Star left-hander Hunter Elliott is 3-0 on the mound with a 0.750 ERA and drove in nine runs last week hitting in the three-hole.

10. West Jones (11-3)

Last week: No. 10

The Mustangs went 2-0 last week, beating Laurel 11-1 Friday night and Lamar School 13-6 Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs will get a chance to avenge on of their early losses when they host Madison Central this coming Saturday after a couple of mid-week games against Brookhaven.
