WHAT A SHOT! Watch Cam Smith’s buzzer-beater and the amazing final sequence in Biggersville’s 1A state championship victory

JACKSON – Welcome to March Madness in Mississippi.

In one of the most thrilling finishes to a high school basketball game you could ever imagine, Cam Smith drained a right-wing 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Biggersville to a 47-46 win over Ingomar in the Mississippi 1A boys basketball state championship game on Thursday night.

But it’s the sequence that led up to Smith’s big shot that was worth the price of admission.

After Ingomar’s Zach Shugars thought he won the game with a beautiful, Jordanesque fadeway foul-line jumper with three seconds left – giving Ingomar a 46-44 lead – Biggersville called timeout and drew up a play.

Needing to go the length of the court in just three seconds, Dylan Rowsey threw a baseball pass past everyone that was headed for the opposite baseline. But before the ball bounced out of bounds, Brooks Brand leapt and saved it, sending a bouncing ball out to the 3-point line. Cam Smith scooped it up, raised up and buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Biggersville an improbable 47-46 win and the Mississippi Class 1A state title.

Was Brand out of bounds before he saved the ball? Maybe. Was Smith’s toe on the 3-point line? Hard to tell. Was that one of the most incredible finishes to a high school basketball state championship game in Mississippi history? We think so.
