SBLive Idaho is previewing the top football teams and players in the state ahead of the 2021 high school football season.
Here are SBLive’s Class 2A preseason Top 10 high school football rankings for 2021. The rankings were compiled by SBLive Idaho correspondent Brandon Walton.
CLASS 2A TOP 10
1. WEST SIDE
2020 record: 11-0
Owners of the state’s longest winning streak at 21 games, the Pirates return enough to be overwhelming favorites yet again.
2020 record: 8-4
Reigning state finalist took big step last season, and has all-state linemen Alex Ortiz and Athan Blonquist to build hopes around.
2020 record: 8-1
Huskies’ fastbreak-on-grass offense is exciting, and four all-state performers, led by RB Jordan Lenz, are back for one more title shot
2020 record: 8-3
Remember when it was the Hornets that dominated this classification (25-0 from 2017-18)? Final four team in 2020 still has dudes.
2020 record: 6-2
Sky-scraping QB Henry Clark is gone, but if Mustangs can find Wing-T signal caller, they have big supporting cast (14 returners).
2020 record: 4-3
What a run of 14 consecutive seasons of making the state tournament. All-state LB Caleb Frei and company should see No. 15.
2020 record: 4-5
Got off to a 4-1 start last season before stumbling. Multi-sport standout/all-state LB Brody Beck key in reversing those fortunes.
2020 record: 3-4
Offense will be fun to watch with 6-3, 200-pound QB Carter Fortin pulling the trigger. He is a top-40 in-state recruit for the 2022 class.
9. BEAR LAKE
2020 record: 5-5
Must figure out how to replace QB Owen Teuscher (2,500 yards, 28 TDs) if it wants to make the playoffs for a third consecutive season.
10. SODA SPRINGS
2020 record: 5-4
Went from a one-win team in 2019 to making the state quarterfinals last fall, but two-way standout (RB/LB) Scott Hunsaker has graduated.
