Watch: Tristan Gentry sinks game-winning free throws, St. Maries makes defensive stand to win Idaho 2A state title

NAMPA – Tristan Gentry is a cool customer.

With the Idaho 2A boys basketball state championship hanging in the balance, Gentry stepped to the free throw line and calmly drained two free throws to give St. Maries a 51-50 lead over Ambrose with 56.5 seconds left.

And those free throws turned out to be the difference.

St. Maries made a late defensive stand and hung on for the 51-50 win Saturday at the Ford Idaho Center. The championship ended a 61-year title drought for St. Maries.

Gentry finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Randie Becktel added 10 points and seven rebounds for St. Maries, while Colby Renner – who was the hero Friday night with a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer – chipped in nine points.

Johnny Sugarman scored 20 points to lead Ambrose, and Ben Blythe added 19.
