SBLive Florida Boys Basketball Rankings (Jan. 10): No. 1 IMG Academy picks up big win over Wasatch

After a 3-0 week that included a big win over Wasatch Academy (Utah), IMG Academy remains No.1 in this week’s SBLive Florida high school boys basketball rankings. 

The weekly rankings are compiled by Ross Van De Griek and are released every Monday during the season.

Last Week: Defeated Bishop Walsh (MD) 79-61, Defeated Legacy Early College (SC) 80-43, Defeated Wasatch Academy (UT) 73-67

This Week: vs Southeast (Bradenton) (Wed.), vs AZ Compass Prep (Sat.) (Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Ma.)

The Ascenders remain at the top in this week’s SBLive rankings, following a 3-0 trip in Round 2 of the NIBC Showcase in Indiana.

2. Montverde Academy (11-3)

Last Week: Lost to Sunrise Christian (KS) 71-61, Defeated Bishop Walsh (MD) 78-45, Defeated La Lumiere (IN) 63-55

This Week: vs Camden (NJ) (Thu.), vs DeMatha (MD) (Sat.) (Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Ma.)

Despite the loss last week to Sunrise Christian, The Eagles remain at No. 2 in this week’s SBLive rankings. 

3. Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale) (10-1)

Last Week: Defeated Westminster Christian 74-27, Defeated Archbishop McCarthy 86-56, Defeated Miami Killian 70-29

This Week: vs Camden (NJ) (Sat.)

The Calvary Christian Academy Eagles are coming off a 3-0 week, where they averaged 76.6 points per game in that stretch. 

The Eagles will travel up to New Jersey on Saturday night, to take on a highly ranked Camden High School squad, who have won 43 consecutive games dating back to 2020.

4. Dr. Phillips (11-3)

Last Week: Defeated Orlando Christian Prep 48-37

This Week: vs Olympia (Wed.), vs TBD (Fri.)

The Panthers were led by their “Big 3” in the O-Town Showdown finale over the weekend, as they defeated Orlando Christian Prep in their last game.

The Panthers will return to action on Wednesday, as they host Olympia High School in what will be a marquee matchup in the Central Florida area.

5. Columbus (Miami) (14-1)

Previous Rank: 5

Last Week: Defeated Braddock (Miami) 71-16, Defeated Dillard 74-68, Defeated Mater Lakes Academy 69-54

This Week: at Florida Christian (Tues.), at Miami Beach (Thu.), at Miami Norland (Fri.)

The Columbus Explorers have won 5 straight games, since suffering their only loss of the season to nationally ranked Moravian Prep (NC) over the holiday break. 

6. Olympia (11-1)

Previous Rank: 6

Last Week: Defeated Windermere 57-54

This Week: at Dr. Phillips (Wed.)

The Olympia Titans are coming off a buzzer-beating 57-54 win over Windermere in their last game. 

The Titans will return to action on Wednesday, where they travel to Dr. Phillips in a marquee matchup.

7. Lake Highland Prep (11-1)

Previous Rank: 7

Last Week: Defeated Trinity Prep 73-62, Defeated Oak Ridge 54-51

This Week: at Santa Fe Catholic (Tues.), vs The First Academy (Orlando) (Fri.)

The Highlanders are riding a 5-game winning streak that dates to December 18, where they lost to George Rogers Clark (KY) 76-60.

8. Fleming Island (16-1)

Previous Rank: 8

Last Week: Defeated Fletcher 52-51

This Week: vs First Coast (Jacksonville) (Thu.)

The Fleming Island Golden Eagles check in at No. 8, in this week’s SBLive Florida boys’ basketball rankings. 

Senior guard Colton Zapp had a team-high 13 points in their last game.

9. North Broward Prep (14-0)

Previous Rank: 10

Last Week: Defeated Benjamin (Palm Beach Gardens) 72-47, Defeated Sagemont 64-63

This Week: at Pine Crest (Tues.), vs Highlands Christian (Fri.)

The North Broward Prep Eagles are the only unbeaten team, in our SBLive Florida boys’ basketball rankings as they check in at No. 9

The Eagles are led by junior forward Guilherme Tesch, who is averaging 17.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game at this point in the season.

10. Stranahan (12-1)

Previous Rank: Not Ranked

Last Week: Defeated West Broward 57-25, Defeated Northeast (Oakland Park) 51-36, Defeated Miramar 64-33

This Week: vs Stoneman Douglas (Mon.), vs Coral Glades (Wed.), vs Sagemont (Fri.) (Marcus McGee MLK Shootout)

The Stranahan Dragons enter the SBLive Florida boys’ basketball rankings for the first time this season, rounding out the Top 10.

11. Andrew Jackson (14-2)

Previous Rank: 13

Last Week: Defeated Bishop Snyder 52-41, Defeated Victory Rock Prep 59-41, Defeated Orange Park 54-50

This Week: No games scheduled

The Andrew Jackson Tigers come into this week, on an 8-game winning streak that dates to December 17, where they lost to neighborhood rival Riverside (51-46).

12. Riverside (Jacksonville) (12-3)

Welcome to the SBLive Florida rankings for the first time this season, the Riverside High School Generals.

Riverside comes into this week, on a 5-game winning streak that dates to December 14 vs Fleming Island (Lost 73-59).

13. Orlando Christian Prep (11-4)

Last Week: Defeated Spruce Creek 71-50, Lost to Dr. Phillips 48-37

Despite the loss to No. 4 Dr. Phillips, The Warriors drop just one spot in this week’s SBLive Florida boys’ basketball rankings. 

14. Pembroke Pines Charter (10-2)

Last Week: Defeated Miami Christian 80-67, Lost to Cypress Bay 68-57

This Week: vs Hallandale (Wed.), vs TBD (Fri.) (Marcus McGee MLK Shootout)

The Pembroke Pines Charter Jaguars have now lost two out of their last three games, since the holiday break. The Jaguars have been led by senior guard and St. John’s University commit Kolby King, who is averaging 17.6 points per game at this stage of the season.

15. Windermere (12-2)

The Windermere Wolverines round out this week’s SBLive Florida boys’ basketball rankings checking in at No. 15

The Wolverines have been led by Duke forward commit Sean Stewart as he’s averaging 19 points and 9 rebounds per game since the new year began.
