WILMINGTON — Los Angeles Harbor College hosted eight high school basketball games on Saturday in the Rolling Hills State Preview Classic. Scorebook Live California’s Connor Morrissette breaks down the top performers from the event below.
Game 8: Corona Centennial 66, Windward 45
Corona Centennial dominated in the finale. Josh Giles’ team is a well oiled machine. Paris Dawson led all scorers with 24 points. Eight Huskies scored in the game.
Game 7: Birmingham 83, Mayfair 80
What. A. Game.
Josh Christopher scored 39 points and Dior Johnson added 34, but it wasn’t enough for the Monsoons. With three seconds left, Birmingham’s David Elliot hit the game-winning three point shot.
Elliot finished with 22 points. Corey Cofield led Birmingham with 27. Elisha Cofield scored 20 points.
Game 6: Westchester 52, Colony 34
Westchester center Marland Harris scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He’s one of the City Section’s top bigs.
Game 5: Santa Monica 49, Harvard-Westlake 35
Daniel Michelini-Jackson played very well for Santa Monica. He scored 11 points and controlled the Vikings’ offense from the point guard spot. Malachi Jones also had 11 points for Santa Monica.
Game 4: Rolling Hills Prep 68 Loyola 49
Four Huskies finished in double figures in this game. JT Tan scored 16 points, Vaughn Flowers and Benny Gealer each had 15 points and Troy Murphy Jr. scored 10.
Game 3: Long Beach Poly 68 Taft 48
Peyton Watson dominated in this game for the Jackrabbits. The junior finished with 33 points on 10/16 shooting to go with six blocks and outscored Taft himself through three quarters.
Game 2: Brentwood 65 El Camino Real 63
Thomas Oosterbroek put in 20 points for Brentwood. Brayden Thomas scored 16.
Game 1: North Torrance 58 Fairfax 18 (girls)
Cheyenne Blanchard scored 11 points in North’s dominating win. Brittany Ishida only scored two points for North but racked up countless assists and also made a big impact on defense. The Saxons got scoring contributions from ten total players.
