Mater Dei Catholic class of 2021 running back Nico Estrada committed to the University of Idaho he announced on Thursday.
“Idaho seems very family oriented,” Estrada said. “After calls with coach I was really happy to hear how close the football team is.”
“Also their graduation rate, the coaches on the football team make it very hard for a football player to not graduate,” Estrada added. “I feel like there will be help for me in every corner I turn. Idaho is also not that far from home.”
Estrada played his junior season at Kearny High School before transferring to Mater Dei Catholic this off-season.
“I would describe myself as a leader on the field and off the field,” Estrada said. “I’m a little quiet off the field but once I am on the field I am always talking. I am a home run hitter with break away speed and once I see that hole I burst through it.”
Estrada ran for 1,306 yards last season to go along with 14 rushing touchdowns. He also caught ten passes for 198 yards and three more touchdowns.
Estrada is the 17th football prospect in the 2021 class to make a college commitment, and the third that is headed to Idaho, joining Lincoln athlete Ja’Shon Williams and Montgomery athlete Isiah King.
