Photos: Liberty-Bakersfield cruises past Pittsburg to claim CIF NorCal 1-A Regional championship

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Behind three touchdown passes from senior quarterback Carson Woods, Liberty-Bakersfield cruised to a 35-7 victory over Pittsbugh on Saturday night in the CIF NorCal 1-A Regional championship game at Bakersfield College.

The Patriots scored 35 unanswered points before the Pirates avoided the shut out with a 51-yard touchdown run by Kai Green with 6:20 remaining.

Liberty (11-2), which has won eight consecutive games, will face Serra-Gardena in the 1-A state championship game on Dec. 11 at Saddleback College.

Woods opened the scoring for the Patriots with a 6-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Jason Oliver on the final play of the first quarter.

After forcing Pittsburg to punt on its next possession, Woods struck again with a 29-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Dylan Lynch that gave Liberty a 14-0 lead with 10:35 left in the second quarter.

Woods closed out the half by hooking up with Oliver for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds remaining for a 21-0 Patriots lead.

Running back Jalen Hankins gave Liberty a commanding 28-0 lead when he scored on a 1-yard dive with 11:03 left in the game.

Kresean Kizzy finished out the scoring for the Patriots with a 25-yard punt return with 9:45 remaining.

Pittsburgh (9-3) had two turnovers in the red zone during the first half, including a fumble at the 1-yard line that went for a touchback.
