SBLive’s San Diego Section Top 10 Boys Basketball Rankings: Cathedral Catholic debuts at No. 5

The winter 2021-22 California high school boys basketball season in the San Diego Section began just over a week ago and there have already been several matchups among top 10 teams. SBLive’s San Diego Section high school boys basketball rankings are compiled by SBLive California reporter Bodie DeSilva and will be released every Monday throughout the winter 2021-22 season.


November 22, 2021

1. St. Augustine (2-1)

The Saints beat San Ysidro and Helix before falling to Sierra Canyon, California’s top team, by five points on Saturday night. They’ll be a tough out for any team in San Diego.

2. San Marcos (0-1)

The Knights lost to Heritage Christian 61-40 on Saturday. They’ll play four games in the Mission Bay Thanksgiving Classic this week.

3. Torrey Pines (2-0)

The Falcons opened the season with wins over Rancho Buena Vista and Otay Ranch. Boston University-signee Otto Landrum had 37 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Otay Ranch.

4. Mission Bay (2-1)

The Buccaneers beat Valhalla and Carlsbad last week before losing to Colony on Saturday.

5. Cathedral Catholic (1-0)

Jaden Lebel had 34 points to lead the Dons to a one-point win over No. 6 San Ysidro in their season opener.

6. San Ysidro (0-3)

Despite starting the season with three losses, the Cougars showed well in all three games, losing to No. 1 St. Augustine, Sierra Canyon, and No. 5 Cathedral Catholic.

7. Mission Hills (2-0)

The Grizzlies have beaten Scripps Ranch and Army-Navy to start the season while averaging 89 points per game.

8. Francis Parker (0-0)

The Lancers will get started by taking on No. 2 San Marcos on Tuesday.

9. La Costa Canyon (2-0)

The Mavericks will get their season started against Tesoro on Tuesday.

Last week: 7

10. Mater Dei Catholic (0-1)

The Crusaders lost to Rolling Hills Prep in their opener. They’ll be missing key pieces of their team until their football team finishes up their playoff run.
