SBLive’s San Diego Section Top 10 Football Rankings: No. 9 Madison will host No. 3 Lincoln

The ninth week of football games in the San Diego Section ended with only one upset of a top 10 team. Helix moved back into the top 10 following their win over Steele Canyon. Mt. Carmel was upset by Rancho Bernardo, ending the Sundevils’ undefeated run and dropping them out of the top 10.

Cathedral Catholic remains at No. 1 in the latest SBLive Top 10 San Diego Section high school football rankings (Oct. 18) following their 42-point win over St. Augustine on Friday. The rankings are compiled by reporter Bodie De Silva and will be released every Monday throughout the fall 2021 season.

1. Cathedral Catholic (6-2)

The Dons beat rival St. Augustine, 49-7. They’ll host La Jolla before traveling to Lincoln to finish the regular season.

2. Carlsbad (8-0)

Carlsbad had no problem against Oceanside, defeating the Pirates on the road, 49-6.

Last week: 2

3. Lincoln (6-1)

Lincoln is coming off of their bye week and will host Madison this week.

Last week: 3

4. Mater Dei Catholic (7-0)

Mater Dei Catholic outscored Eastlake 28-7 in the final three quarters to win 28-14 and remain undefeated.

Last week: 4

5. Mission Hills (6-2)

The Grizzlies survived a furious comeback from Torrey Pines, holding off the Falcons, 20-14. They’ve won all three games since losing quarterback Gunner Hensley to a season-ending injury.

Last week: 5

6. Scripps Ranch (7-0)

Scripps Ranch beat Christian, 41-23. The Falcons have scored 40 points or more in each of their seven games.

Last week: 7

7. Torrey Pines (4-3)

The Falcons’ comeback against Mission Hills fell short, 20-14. They’ll take on San Marcos and La Costa Canyon to finish out the regular season.

Last week: 6

8. Poway (6-2)

Poway crushed Westview, 49-0. They’ll head to Mt. Carmel this week looking to keep pace with Rancho Bernardo in the Palomar League standings.

Last week: 1

9. Madison (6-2)

Madison beat La Jolla on the road, 35-14. They’ll get a chance for an upset when they host No. 3 Lincoln on Friday.

Last week: 10

10. Helix (4-3)

Helix bounced back from a loss to Mission Viejo with a win over Steele Canyon. A league title is on the line with games against Grossmont and Granite Hills coming up.
