THIS WEEK’S SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:
Katie Carpenter, Poway volleyball: Carpenter had 45 assists, 18 digs and 6 blocks in a 3-2 win over Rancho Bernardo on Oct. 5.
Malia Kirton, Los Osos volleyball: Kirton had 31 digs and 20 serve receptions in a 3-0 win over St. Lucy’s on Oct. 7.
Dominic Nankil, Mater Dei Catholic QB: Nankil was 24 of 36 passing for 355 yards and four touchdowns against Otay Ranch.
Wyatt Gardner, Torrey Pines WR/DB: Gardner touched the ball four times on Friday night, totaling 135 yards and three touchdowns.
Matt Moore, Carlsbad WR: Moore had 10 catches for 136 yards and three touchdowns in Friday’s win over San Marcos.
James Tivao, Madison LB/RB: Tivao rushed for three touchdowns, converted two two-point conversions, and had ten tackles to help the Warhawks take down St. Augustine.
Luke Heggie, Santa Fe Christian LB: Heggie had five tackles and 3.5 sacks in Friday’s win over Classical Academy.
Braden Oberg, West Hills QB: Oberg tossed three touchdown passes and rushed for one in Friday’s win over El Cajon Valley.
Orlando Castillo, Mission Bay DL: Castillo had four tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble in a six-point win against Crawford.
Mikey Matthews, Mission Viejo WR: Matthews caught eight passes for 138 yards and three touchdowns against Helix.
Brody O’Brien, Westview WR: O’Brien reeled in ten passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns to help the Wolverines take down Vista. He also returned a kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown in the win.
Thomas Jones, San Diego RB: Jones carried seven times on Friday, finishing with 282 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-14 win over Coronado.
Savigon Yokley, El Capitan QB: Yokley rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns and also passed for 74 yards and a touchdown in Friday’s one-touchdown win over Mt. Miguel.
Ethan Bowser, Muir DL: Bowser has 13 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble in Thursday’s shutout against Arcadia.
Jake George, La Serna WR: George caught eight passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns against Santa Fe.
Jordan Ford, Dominguez QB: Ford passed for 192 yards and five touchdowns in Thursday’s shutout of Gahr.
Norion Espadron, Etiwanda WR: Espadron had a 66-yard rushing touchdown and a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Los Osos.
Maddox Bernadino, Diamond Bar WR: Bernadino was unstoppable against Wilson, catching 14 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns.
Drew Faulkner, Western DB/WR: Faulkner had a rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, and a 35-yard pick-six in Thursday’s win over Anaheim.
David Herrera, Norwalk RB/DB: Herrera rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns and also returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown.
Houston Thomas, Servite RB: Thomas rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns against Santa Margarita on Thursday.
Thomas Rosso, Chadwick QB: Rosso was 14 of 21 passing for 214 yards and four touchdown passes against Rolling Hills Prep on Friday.
Matthew Morrell, Cypress WR: Morrell passed for two touchdowns, rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns, and caught a touchdown in Friday’s win against Tustin.
Beau Bruins, Ramona RB: Bruins rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns, averaging eight yards per carry, in a win over Arlington.
Jacob Orozco, Salesian RB/LB: Orozco rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns and returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown against Harvard-Westlake.
Brady Jones, Vista Murrieta QB: Jones was 8-of-11 for 311 yards and six TDs in a win over Temecula Valley
Grant Wayne, Vista Murrieta WR: Wayne caught three passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Temecula Valley.
Hector Ceballos, Franklin WR: Ceballos had 3 TDs and 224 yards on 27 receptions as well as 1 interception in Franklin’s 28-21 win against Eagle Rock.
