Coming off a nationally-televised 42-28 loss to St. Frances (Maryland) – in a game that was effectively over at halftime – it was a safe bet that De La Salle was going to be angry coming into Friday night’s game against Folsom.
And angry they were.
The Spartans, the seventh-ranked team in SBLive’s California Top 25, scored early and often, exploding to a 24-0 first-half lead that gave Folsom little hope for a comeback. Final score: De La Salle 31, Folsom 10.
It started on the opening kickoff as Zeke Berry returned it 89 yards for a touchdown. Then quarterback Luke Dermon reeled off a 56-yard touchdown run. Then Mickey McLaughlin blocked a punt, setting up a 6-yard TD run by Charles Greer.
A 43-yard field goal by Jordan Kennedy made it 24-0 De La Salle with just over four minutes left in the first half.
The victory extended De La Salle’s winning streak against Sac-Joaquin Section teams to 45 games.
Folsom (5-1) came into the game ranked No. 5 in the SBLive California Top 25. The Bulldogs will have to regroup quickly as they travel to unbeaten Rocklin (6-0) next week.
De La Salle (4-2) will host California next week.
