Unvaccinated high school athletes participating in moderate or high-risk sports in Los Angeles County must test weekly for COVID-19, according to updated guidance from the LA County of Department of Public Health released on Monday, August, 30th. The updated guidance goes into effect September 1st.
Prior guidance released last week called for all high school athletes participating in moderate or high-risk sports in Los Angeles County to test weekly. Now only unvaccinated athletes must test weekly.
The guidelines also require the wearing of masks by spectators and participants for indoor events such as volleyball. Mask wearing will be recommended but not required for outside events.
Weekly testing of athletes was required in LA County up until March and now the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles has caused the LA County Department of Public Health to require it once again. LAUSD schools have been testing athletes weekly already and that will continue.
Here’s the latest guidance from the LA County Department of Public Health that will go into effect on September 1st.
