The 2021 high school football season kicks off this week in the Los Angeles City Section, and San Pedro is the early favorite.

Here are SBLive’s preseason Top 10 LA City Section high school football rankings. The rankings were compiled by SBLive California reporter Connor Morrissette.

August 16, 2021

1. San Pedro (0-0)

On paper, the Pirates have the most talent in the City. San Pedro returns QB Aidan Jackson and WR/DB Rob Sarmiento as well 12 other major difference makers.

2. Birmingham (0-0)

Who will throw the ball to Arlis Boardingham? The Patriots’ new QB will play a major role in the Patriots’ Open Division title defense.

3. Venice (0-0)

Wide out Rashawn Jackson is one of the most explosive players in the City Section and the Gondoliers have a quarterback who will get him the ball in Paul Kessler.

4. Granada Hills (0-0)

If you play the Highlanders, you better be able to stop Dijon Stanley and the Granada Hills high powered rushing attack.

5. Banning (0-0)

San Jose State commit Jakob Galloway should have a huge senior season at running back.

6. Canoga Park (0-0)

Canoga Park thinks they can win the Valley Mission League with two way standout Kayden Collins and linebacker Anthony Villalobos anchoring the Hunters’ defense.

7. Reseda (0-0)

Saleem Marshall has earned his reputation as one of the City’s top linebackers. “When he hits you, you go down,” one opposing coach told SBLive.

8. Palisades (0-0)

Running back Daniel Anoh will be a big factor on offense this fall under Pali’s new coaching regime. The Dolphins will have a strong offensive line as well.

9. Garfield (0-0)

Head coach Lorenzo Hernandez thinks he has a great foundation of young players mixed with some solid veterans. Watch out for QB Jaison Vargas — Jacob Ramos will be his favorite target.

10. Arleta (0-0)

This fall will be a big one for running back and linebacker Kelvin Duran, a three year starter for the Mustangs.
