Lancaster defeats Arroyo Valley 3-2 in pitching duel to win CIFSS Division 7 baseball championship

Friday morning at Blair Field in Long Beach, Lancaster held on in a 3-2 nail-biter to defeat Arroyo Valley for a Southern Section Division 7 title.

Lancaster jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a throwing error, and would never trail in the game. The Eagles added a third run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly, which would prove to be the clincher.

Logan Fekety, who got the start for the Eagles, tossed five scoreless innings for Lancaster before exiting the sixth inning with no outs and runners on first and second.

Brian Richards came in out of the bullpen, and while the runners would score to cut Lancaster’s lead to 3-2, no further damage was done. Richards would close out Arroyo Valley in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 final.

Lancaster finished section play 16-9, and the CIFSS’s newest Division 7 champion. Arroyo Valley finished 14-9.
