THIS WEEK’S SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:
Daniel McElveny, Bonita Vista SS: McElveny had two doubles and two walks to help the Barons take down Otay Ranch, 5-1, to capture the Metro Mesa League championship.
Jon Pearson, Canyon Crest G: Pearson had 49 points to propel the Ravens to a first round win over Eastlake in the San Diego Section Division 2 playoffs.
Duce Gourson, Point Loma SS: Gourson hit a walk-off double and drove in both runs to help the Pointers defeat Scripps Ranch to win the Western League Championship.
Sofia Mujica, Granite Hills C/3B: Mujica, a freshman, hit her 17th home run in last week’s win over West Hills, tying the San Diego Section record for home runs in a season.
Olivia Gigante, Patrick Henry 1B: Gigante has hit seven home runs in her last six games, giving her 16 on the season.
Emmy Cardenas, La Jolla RHP: Cardenas has 19 hits during her current 12-game hitting streak and is batting .550 so far this season.
Ella Parker, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame LHP: Parker has seven home runs and three triples in her last six games and is hitting .594 on the season.
Brooklyn Carreon, Whittier Christian RHP: Carreon has struck out 42 batters during her past four starts and has not allowed an earned run during that time.
Gabriela Jaquez, Camarillo F: Jaquez had 52 points last week in a one-point loss to Bishop Montgomery.
Londynn Jones, Corona Centennial G: Jones had 27 and 28 points in back-to-back games last week, helping the Huskies score 197 total points in the two games.
Brett Pursley, Poway OH: Pursley had 20 kills to help the Titans take down Sage Creek in five sets in the San Diego Section Open Division Volleyball Championship.
Derek Murphy, Bishop Montgomery RHP: Murhpy tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout in Friday’s playoff win over Santa Ana while striking out 13 batters.
Easton Rulli, Thousand Oaks INF: Rulli went had two hits, three runs batted in and a stolen base in Friday’s playoff win over Moorpark.
Nathan McManus, Yorba Linda LHP: McManus threw six innings without allowing a hit to help the Mustangs take down Villa Park in the first round of the Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.
Scott Young, Mission Viejo OF: Young went 2-4 with a home run and three runs batted in last week in a first round win over Marina.
