SBLive’s California Top 25: Long Beach Poly and Carlsbad debut in statewide football rankings

All eyes were on last week’s showdown in San Diego between Cathedral Catholic and Lincoln, the most intriguing matchup entering Week 5 of the spring 2021 California high school football season. Cathedral Catholic made it clear they’re the No. 1 team in the San Diego Section with a 41-0 victory.

Elsewhere in the state, Chaminade took down Alemany 34-27, which dropped the Warriors out of this week’s rankings. Santa Margarita’s 49-13 defeat to Mater Dei dropped the Eagles out of the rankings as well. In Central and Northern California, all of the teams ranked last week either won their games or didn’t play.

The statewide high school football rankings are compiled by SBLive California reporter Connor Morrissette and will be released every Monday throughout the shortened season.
