Top 15 running backs in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section in spring 2021 California high school football season

With the spring 2021 football season underway, SBLive California continues to take a look at the top high school football players in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, position by position.

The main criteria for our Top 15 running back rankings are statistics from the 2019 high school season relative to team success (on offense). The rankings were compiled by SBLive reporter Connor Morrissette.

TOP 15 RUNNING BACKS IN CIF SAC-JOAQUIN SECTION

15. Joe Brijs – Roseville – Sr.

Brijs rushed for 819 yards and 19 TDs as a junior.

14. Tyrei Washington – St. Mary’s (Stockton) – Sr.

Washington started the 2021 spring season off with a bang rushing for a touchdown in St. Mary’s opener against De La Salle. In 2019, Washington rushed for 852 yards and 14 TDs.

13. Malakhi DeMoss – Vanden – Jr.

As a sophomore, DeMoss finished the season with 126 carries for 1,036 yards and 14 TDs.

12. Christian Zamora – Lodi – Sr.

Zamora rushed for 1,159 yards and 14 TDs in his junior season.

11. Luke Anderson – Escalon – Sr.

Anderson finished his junior season with 183 carries for 1,154 yards and 17 TDs. He helped lead Escalon to Section and state titles in 2019.

10. Joseph Filippini – Tokay – Sr.

Tokay had a tough season in 2019 going 2-8, but Filippini had a big year rushing for 1,347 yards and 20 TDs.

9. James Sherman Jr. – Linden – Sr.

Sherman did a little of everything for Linden in 2019. He throw a TD pass, caught a TD pass, returned kicks and punts, and made 15 tackles. His biggest contribution was in the running game where he rushed for 1,157 yards and 17 TDs.

8. Enam Eva Davis – Stone Ridge Christian – Sr.

Davis rushed 184 times for 1,497 yards and 18 TDs in 2019. He also made 19 tackles for loss on defense and blocked two punts.

7. Christian Ridgway – Cosumnes Oaks – Sr.

Ridgway averaged 8.8 yards per carry in 2019. He finished his junior season with 1,454 rushing yards and nine TDs.

6. Zeke Burnett – Elk Grove – Junior

Burnett rushed for 1,001 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2019 as a sophomore. He’s received six Division 1 scholarship offers, per 247Sports.com.

5. Jabari Phillips – Golden Valley (Merced) – Jr.

Phillips rushed for 1,601 yards and 21 TDs as a sophomore for Golden Valley.

4. Ethan Menezes – Vista del Lago (Folsom) – Senior

Menezes rushed for 1,859 yards and 17 TDs in 2019. He also caught two scores.

3. Kimoni Stanley – Sierra (Manteca) – Senior

Stanley had an incredible junior season. He rushed for 2,024 yards and 33 TDs in 2019 leading Sierra to a Division IV title game appearance.

2. Jonah Coleman – Lincoln (Stockton) – Junior

Coleman is committed to Arizona. In 2019, he rushed for 1,587 yards and 30 TDs.

1. Prophet Brown – Monterey Trail – Sr.

Brown is both a 4-star DB prospect and also a D-I caliber running back. He signed with USC in December. Last season Brown rushed for 779 yards and 11 TDs on a massive 12.2 yards per carry. He also had 343 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
