Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Southern California High School Athlete of the Week for March 8-14 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. THIS WEEK’S SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:

Justin Gil, La Habra QB: In Gil’s varsity debut, the sophomore completed 14-19 passes for 185 yards, and had both a passing and rushing touchdown. La Habra defeated reigning CIFSS Division 2 finalist Chaminade 35-16.

Rayshon Luke, St. John Bosco RB: Luke ran for two touchdowns of 67 and 17 yards, and also had a 42-yard reception in a 42-21 win over Sierra Canyon.

Katin Houser, St. John Bosco QB: In his debut as a Brave, Houser threw for two touchdowns in under three quarters of action.

David Rasor, Corona del Mar QB: Rasor threw for three touchdowns in a 38-21 win over Palos Verdes.

Tommy Griffin, Corona del Mar FS/WR: Griffin had two receiving touchdowns and seven tackles (one for loss).

Devin Samples, Long Beach Poly RB: Samples ran for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-21 win over Serra Gardena.

Charlie Mirer, Cathedral Catholic QB: The junior passed for 181 yards and had three touchdown passes in the Dons opening week 41-0 victory over Torrey Pines.

Jack Kilpatrick, Cathedral Catholic RB: The senior running back caught three passes for 89 yards and was on the receiving end of two of Mirer’s three touchdown passes.

Dennis Andrew, Orange Glen QB: Andrew started his junior season with a bang, passing for 506 yards and seven touchdowns in the Patriot’s loss to Santa Fe Christian on Friday.

Christian Washington, Helix RB: Washington had 328 all-purpose yards, a receiving touchdown, and a kickoff return for a touchdown in the opening week loss to St. Augustine.

Trey Bradford, San Marcos DB: The Fordham-signee had six tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown in the Knight’s 9-7 loss to La Costa Canyon on Friday.

Justus McComb, Granite Hills QB: The Southwest Minnesota State-signee started his season strong with 118 passing yards and three touchdowns against Valhalla. He also added another touchdown on the ground.

Joaquin Thomas, Granite Hills RB: Thomas had a huge night against Valhalla, carrying eight times for 160 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a ten-yard touchdown reception.

Braeden Boyles, Edison QB: Boyles only attempted nine passes in a 55-7 blowout of Trabuco Hills, but he completed seven of them for four touchdowns. 

Malachi Nelson, Los Alamitos QB: Nelson completed 13-23 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-0 rout of Millikan.

Makai Lemon, Los Alamitos WR/DB: Lemon caught for 115 yards and a touchdown on offense, and had an interception on defense. 

Lane Broderick, Los Alamitos DB/RB: Broderick had a touchdown rushing, a touchdown receiving, and a blocked punt.

Brandon Roberts, Sunny Hills RB: Roberts turned nine carries into 143 yards and four touchdowns in a 56-14 win over Fountain Valley.

Vince Silva, Sunny Hills RB/LB: Silva ran for 174 yards and a touchdown, and finished with over 200 yards of offense. He also made four tackles.

Nick Wilde, Sunny Hills DB: Wilde recorded 16 tackles and two passes defensed.

Ethan Pocci, Yorba Linda RB: Yorba Linda came up just short in a 24-23 loss against Newport Harbor, but Pocci gave it all he could with 186 yards and two touchdowns rushing.

Jack Jacobs, St. Francis QB: Jacobs led St. Francis to a 38-35 win over Mira Costa in his first varsity start with 390 yards and four touchdowns passing on 24-37 completion.

Bryson Reeves, St. Francis WR: Reeves caught for 151 yards and three TDs.

Thomas Southey, Mira Costa WR: Southey had 204 yards and four touchdowns on a school-record 12 receptions.

Casey Pavlik, Mira Costa QB: In his first ever varsity start, Pavlik completed 28 of 41 passes for 404 yards and five touchdowns.

Semaj Freeman, Oaks Christian RB: Freeman led Oaks to a 37-14 win over Paraclete with three rushing touchdowns.

Colt Fulton, Santa Margarita QB: Fulton completed 18-25 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns as SM defeated Mayfair 54-16. He did so in under three quarters of action.
