The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) announced Friday that they are moving the start of the 2020-2021 high school sports season back to January. Each sport’s competitive seasons will be reduced to about six weeks.
Winter sports will start first, with practices beginning on January 2 and the season going until February 20. Fall sports will take place from February 20 through April 10, with the exception of football, which can start on February 13. Spring sports will take place from April 3 through May 22.
The NIAA also said that state playoffs are not currently expected to take place. Other playoffs will be left up to individual classifications and leagues.
Nevada’s announcement comes three days after the California Interscholastic Federation announced a four-month delay to the 2020-2021 California high school sports season. California’s high school football season is now scheduled to start in December.
