Scorebook Live California’s 2019 All-Southern Section football teams

Here are Scorebook Live California’s All-Southern Section high school football teams for the 2019 season. The three teams — first team, second team and honorable mention — were compiled by Scorebook Live reporters Connor Morrissette and Lance Smith. Players from all 14 Southern Section Divisions were considered. All selected players are seniors unless otherwise noted.



QB: Bryce Young – Mater Dei

Young won the Gatorade state player of the year award, given annually to California’s top football player. He signed with Alabama on Dec. 18.

OL: Myle Murao – Mater Dei

Muraro was an All-Trinity League selection and a three year starter at Mater Dei. He signed with Washington on Dec. 18.

OL: Drake Metcalf – St. John Bosco

Metcalf was an All-Trinity League selection. He signed with Stanford on Dec. 18.

OL: Jonah Monheim – Moorpark

Monheim was named the Camino League co-offensive lineman of the year. He signed with USC on Dec. 18.

OL: Jeffrey Persi – JSerra

Persi was an All-Trinity League selection. He signed with Michigan.

OL: Elia Migao – Chaparral – Jr.

Migao was named the Southwestern League offensive lineman of the year.

TE: Mark Redman – Corona Del Mar

Redman caught 72 passes for 979 yards and 13 touchdowns for the undefeated state champion Sea Kings. He signed with Washington.

RB: Damien Moore – Bishop Amat

Moore was named the Mission League MVP. He signed with Cal.

RB: Davon Booth – El Monte

Booth led the state in rushing yards with 2,935. He also scored 36 touchdowns.

WR: Kris Hutson – St. John Bosco

Hutson was consistently clutch for St. John Bosco during their state championship run. He finished the season with over 1,000 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Hutson signed with Oregon.

WR: John Humphreys – Corona Del Mar

Humphreys signed with Stanford. He caught 111 passes for 2,001 yards and 32 touchdowns for the undefeated state champion Sea Kings.

Ethan Garbers, corona del mar

DL: Kobe Pepe – St. John Bosco

Pepe was an All-Trinity League selection. He signed with USC.

DL: Tyler Wegis – San Juan Hills

Wegis had 37 tackles for loss in his senior season. He signed with Utah.

DL: Lance Keneley – Mission Viejo

Keneley had 13 sacks in 2019 for the Division 1 semifinalist Diablos.

DL: LeShaun Bell – Calabasas

Bell terrorized defenses all season. He was constantly on opposing offenses minds. The senior finished the year with 60 tackles.

LB: Ma’a Gaoteote – St. John Bosco – Jr.

Gaoteote made the key strip sack in St. John Bosco’s Southern Section championship win over Mater Dei. He was an All-Trinity League selection.

LB: Justin Flowe – Upland – Jr.

Flowe won the Dick Butkus award winner given out annually to the nation’s top high school linebacker. He signed with Oregon.

LB: Caleb McCullough – Pacifica

McCullough led the Southern Section in tackles with 234. He signed with Arizona State.

DB: Clark Phillips – La Habra

Phillips intercepted four passes this season. He signed with Utah on Thursday.

DB: JonJon Vaughns – St. John Bosco

Vaughns was an All-Trinity League selection. He signed with UCLA.

DB: Jaylin Davies – Mater Dei – Jr.

Davies was an All-Trinity League selection.

DB: Grady Liddell – Camarillo

Liddell intercepted eight passes this season.
